Sad Day for New England

Mike Crotty Sr., the director of the Middlesex Magic AAU program, passed away on Tuesday.  He was 57 years old.

Mike’s tragic death is a devastating loss to the hundreds of players that he has coached over the years and the entire New England basketball community.

For the last 17 years Mike has built the Middlesex Magic into one of New England’s purest AAU basketball programs, serving both boys and girls at every level, and helping dozens of players to “have fun and get better” on a daily basis.

By late Tuesday night word of Crotty’s passing had just started to circulate and already his current and former players began to reach out.

Former Boston College High School star Chris Hurley may have best summed up the feelings of hundreds of players from across Massachusetts.

“Coach Crotty was more than a coach to me, he was a mentor.  Always stressing academics before sports.  If it was not for him I would not be playing basketball in college.  The impact Coach Crotty has left on mine and many of players he coached went beyond basketball.  Coach Crotty will always be a part of my life.”

Visiting hours in St Josephs Church 124 Common Street Belmont on Thursday Feb. 4 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to "NOAH" National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation P. O. Box 959 East Hampstead N.H. 03826-0959.  Click here to visit Coach Crotty's online obituary.

Our deepest condolences go out to Mike’s wife, two children, grandson, and the entire Crotty family.
