Reilly commits to Holy Cross in 2019
After a storied high school career at East Catholic, which included a pair of state championshiops, Joey Reilly was set to pursue a post-graduate year at Phillips Exeter Academy.
That was until, new Holy Cross head coach Brett Nelson offered him a scholarship to join the Crusaders right away.
Now, Reilly becomes the first player to commit to Nelson and helps fill a key void in Holy Cross' backcourt next season.
In addition to his two state championships with East Catholic, Reilly also finished as the program's all-time leading scorer with over 1,800 career points. A four-year starter, Reilly averaged 21 points, 6 assists, and 5 assists this season while shooting over 45% from the three-point line as a senior.
"He went 104-7 in his high school career and won two state titles," East Catholic head coach Luke Reilly said. "He is a winner and strives to be elite in all areas. As the son of a coach, he has a deep understanding of the game. It will be exciting to watch him help Coach Nelson and his staff build something special at Holy Cross."
Reilly comes from a famous Connecticut basketball family as his grandfather won over 500 games as the coach at South Catholic High School in Hartford while his uncle won over 400 games as the coach at Portland High School. His father is the head coach at Wesleyan while he has suited up for his uncle, who played at the University of Hartford, for the last four years.
As skilled and smart as you would expect with those roots, Reilly is also loaded with intangibles including a tremendous work-ethic and natural leadership skills.
