Phones Ringing in 2020
Friday, June 15th if the first date permitted by the NCAA that their member coaches can directly contact perspective student athletes in the sophomore class.
Translation - college coaches can call, text, email, or DM players in the class of 2020 beginning at midnight last night.
Inevitably, this date brings a long list of contacts and potential scholarship offers. It's an exciting time for many young prospects as they get to hear from college coaches directly for the first time.
However, it's also important to keep it all in perspective.
Like many things in the recruiting process, there's nothing binding about anything that happens this early in the process. While the validity of an offer is debatable at best, what is certain is that with still two years left of high school basketball this is still just the beginning for these prospects.
Success stories are the ones that get told in the recruiting world. What you don't hear about are the number of kids who get entitled and miss out on a potential life changing opportunity to earn a free education. Those are the stories that serve as a warning for today's young people to stay humble, keep working hard, make good decisions off the floor, and take care of their work in the classroom.
In short - enjoy the phone calls and texts but keep it all in perspective. No free educations are awarded today.
