Kirk Crecco will Play at Dartmouth

The month of July is a critical time for any aspiring college basketball player.  With the beginning of the “live” period hundreds of players each year are hoping to catch the attention of college coaches and earn the scholarship they have dreamed about for years.

Unfortunately, the end of the month is often a disappointing time for many players as the time comes and goes with only a very small percentage of players receiving serious interest.  But Gilford, New Hampshire’s Kirk Crecco was the diamond in the rough who came away with the chance he was looking for.

When the month started he wasn’t any different from hundreds of other players.  He didn’t have too much division I interest despite sending out his game tapes to a variety of college coaches.

His first stop was the Hall of Fame National Invitational where he starred for his New Hampshire Playerz team, but that event came and went without getting the type of attention he had hoped for.  The rest of the month seemed to follow the same pattern.  Crecco’s last chance was Session Four of the Eastern Invitational Basketball Camp.  The first three days went by without much action.  Then on July 31st, the last day of the camp and the live period, Crecco had the type of day he had dreamed about.  He was knocking down the three-point shot with his picture perfect stroke, getting to the rim and showing his deceptive athleticism, and showing he could handle the ball against pressure.

One of the coaches that was looking on that day was from Dartmouth.  The Big Green quickly extended an invitation for Crecco to join them at their Elite camp a few weeks later.  Not only did the New Hampshire native accept but he made the most of the opportunity as he is said to have been dominant throughout the three day camp.

Shortly afterward, Crecco had an offer to join the team, which he quickly accepted.  He was officially admitted a few weeks ago, and last week signed his acceptance letter to the school, making it official.

“It is kind of funny the way it all happened,” he told the New England Recruiting Report.  “They’re a local school, but because I play at such a small high school, they didn’t see me until the last day of Eastern…But I’m very excited”

Either way you have to be happy for a player who got a rare opportunity and made the most out of it.
