Garvin Headed to NEC

Daniel Garvin, a six-foot-six forward from Bethel High School in Connecticut, committed to Bryant University on Wednesday after visiting the school officially this past weekend.

“I knew right after [the visit] that I wanted to go there,” Garvin said, “but I wanted to come home and talk it over with my family.”

Garvin flew under the recruiting radar for the vast majority of his high school career and was still unknown to most college coaches coming into last spring’s AAU season.

“Each year I just keep putting more and more work into my game,” he said.  “This year, things changed when I joined the [Connecticut Basketball Club] national team.  I was playing against great players all around the country.”

A high level athlete who impacted games with his ability to cover the court and play above the rim, Garvin has also added ten pounds of muscle to his frame this year without having ever seriously lifted weights.

“He’s a great kid and outstanding athlete,” CBC’s u17 head coach Ken Smith said.  “His ceiling is very high.  He’s a good learner, good listener, and quality person.  He’s going to get better and better as time goes on.”

A classic late bloomer, in many ways Garvin is still just scratching the surface of his potential.  With his natural athleticism, untapped physical tools, and signs of skill facing the basket, his commitment could very well be the type of under the radar pledge that ends up paying high dividends for Bryant down the road.

Here's a look back at Garvin talking about the development in his game at the New England Elite 75 Showcase in June.
