Carey Picks Cuse
Northfield Mount Hermon and New York Lightning Select big man Peter Carey made a verbal commitment to Syracuse on Tuesday morning.
Carey has been on the ACC school's campus twice in the last month, first for elite camp at the end of August and more recently for his official visit.
"I felt that their system matched my style of play more than any other school in the country and the way they're going to utilize me made the best use of my skills," Carey told NERR. "The coaching staff is just such a wonderful group of people that, all-in-all, it was just a no-brainer."
The 6-foot-11 big man's rise has been almost unprecedented over the course of the last two years as he was a virtual unknown prior to the pandemic to a high-major recruit.
Carey first appeared on the radar when Lightning Select became the first program to participate in the Be Seen Tour in the summer of 2020.

"The last few years, getting to experience great coaching from John Carroll and Jesse Shapiro, I became more of a studen tof the game and made a lot of growth in a relatively short amount of time," Carey said. "But this was totally beyond my expectations. I was just hoping to play D1 basketball, but now that I'm on my way to an ACC school, it's just astonishing to me and a dream come true."
