Canty Atlantic 10 Bound
Brimmer and May big man Ryan Canty made a verbal commitment to Fordham University late Monday night, putting an end to his recruitment.
Canty told the New England Recruiting Report on Tuesday that he made his decision after taking official visits to both Fordham and St. Joseph's in recent weeks.
"The new coaches at Fordham are all pretty cool and I felt like they wanted me the most out of everyone who was recruiting me," Canty said.
Canty said another big part of his decision making process was finding a school where he could make an immediate impact.
"That's another reason why I made the decision," he said. "The coaches told me that I could come in and see a lot of time as a freshman because they're trying to rebuild the program."
Canty is a phenominal athlete with a great combination of speed, mobility, power, and athleticism. The six-foot-nine powerhouse is one of the best finishers in all of New England as he gets his head on the rim to throw down powerful dunks against just about anyone. He is also capable of being dominant on the glass and has seen his skill set gradually expand in recent months.
A product of the Mass Rivals AAU program, Canty saw recruitment from a variety of schools in the Atlantic 10 throughout his career and even generated his fair share of high major interest throughout the process.
At Fordham, he has an opportunity to be part of their foundation moving forward and potentially an impact player in the future as there aren't a whole lot of guys who can match his size and athleticism, even in a conference as competitive as the Atlantic 10.
