Worcester Guard Heading to Big West
Worcester Academy senior guard Olivier Paul Betu made a verbal commitment to UC Davis on Thursday.
The Canadian native headed to the California campus for his first official visit this week.
Also a top notch student, Betu was attracted to Davis because of the combination of the high level of basketball in the Big West Conference and the school’s excellent academic reputation according to Worcester Academy head coach Jamie Sullivan.
“Olivier really enjoyed the campus, team and coaches at UC Davis,” Sullivan said. “The style of pay really fits him well.”
Davis, now in his third year at Worcester Academy, is an exciting guard with the ability to put points on the board in bunches. He’s quick with his dribble, very bouncy around the rim, and capable of getting hot from behind the three-point line.
An undeniable talent who can play both on and off the ball, Betu has always had a high upside and if he learns to put together all of his abilities on a consistent basis, he could be a diamond in the rough type talent at the next level.
UC Davis head coach Jim Les may be just the man to help Betu take his game to the next level. Les played in the NBA for nine years, including a three year stint with the Sacramento Kings, before entering the coaching profession.
Les is assisted by former Providence assistant coach, Chris Davis, who became familiar with Betu during his stint in New England.
Betu is the second player to commit to the Aggies in the class of 2012, joining six-foot-five swingman Tyler Ott from Utah.
