Williams Back off the Board

Little more than a week after de-committing from Hofstra, Vermont Academy post-graduate swingman Rich Williams made a verbal commitment to Manhattan on Friday night.

Williams’ initial verbal commitment to Hofstra came in late January.  Because he hadn’t yet signed his National Letter of Intent, his commitment was not yet binding.

The six-foot-four swingman will be returning close to home after graduating from Transit Tech High School last June and starring from the New York Lightning on the grassroots circuits.

Williams will be joining a Manhattan team that began the season with a 5-14 record before winning 8 of their next 10 games to advance to the finals of the MAAC tournament.  The Jaspers are also expected to be one of the conference’s pre-season favorites come next season.

In Williams, they’re landing a good athlete with a college ready body, who should be capable of seeing significant minutes from day one and putting points on the board right away.

He becomes the fourth player to commit to head coach Steve Masiello in the class of 2013 joining two other metro area products in center Carlton Allen and point guard Tyler Wilson, along with former South Kent swingman Chris Thomas, who will be transferring in from Chipola Community College.
