Western Massachusetts Commitments

The SECC All-Stars made their debut last year with the stated mission of helping more players from Western Massachusetts take their game to the next level.  Judging by the results their players are now finding in the recruiting process, it looks like year one has to be considered a success.  Here is a look at where some of their players are heading next year: 

•  Ryan Mickiewicz & Devin Abad, East Longmeadow – The senior tandem is staying together, and local, for the next four years as they are headed to WNEC.  Another East Longmeadow senior, James Bertier, will continue his career at Eastern Nazarene.   

•  Robbie Burke, Hoosac – Burke was one of the top players in Western Massachusetts this year and should be an impact player at Colby-Sawyer next year. 

•  Jesse Coulon, Northampton – A lethal catch and shoot threat with a college ready body, Coulon will take his game to Colby College next season.   

•  Sean Cunningham & Ben Brassad, Amherst – Ironically, two players from Amherst High School will be heading out of town to play in the NESAC as Cunningham heads to Bates and Brassad joins Coulon at Colby. 

•  Devante Vanderpool & Phil Warrick, New Leadership – Both of New Leadership’s star seniors will continue their basketball careers next year as Vanderpool moves onto the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Warrick to Lyndon State. 

•  Aaron Rogers, Westfield – Rogers averaged over 15 points per game this year for Westfield and will be taking his talents to Emmanuel next season. 

•  Jordan Smith and Pat Thomas, Central – A pair of Springfield Central seniors have decided on the next stop in their respective careers as Smith will be moving on to North Platte Community College, a highly rated junior college with several New England ties, and Thomas will play at Lyndon State. 

•  Brenden Rios, Easthampton – Rios led Easthampton to a 17-6 record this year and finished his career as a 1000 point scorer.  He will play next year for St. Joseph’s of Vermont. 

•  Brenden Labrie, Hampshire – Few players can match the type of numbers that Labrie put up in his senior season and local fans will be able to continue to watch as he will stay close to home and star for Westfield State. 

The SECC All-Stars will be holding their second annual College Night on Thursday, May 20th.  All members of the 2010 program will be in action with their transcripts available to college coaches.  The showcase will take place from 6:30-9:00pm at the South End Community Center in Springfield.
