Western CT & RIC Add Pieces
A few recent commitments have come via the Little East Conference.
Western Connecticut State University has a pair of incoming guards who could make quite a formidable backcourt tandem in Maloney High School's Tracy Rumley and Williston Northampton's Kieran Hamilton.
The six-foot Rumley had a decorated high school career in the city of Meriden, beginning his career at Platt before spending his final two seasons at Maleony.
He averaged over 17 points and nearly 5 rebounds per game as a junior, earning Hartford Court Fab 15 honors in the process and generating recruiting interest from a variety of division III and scholarship level programs.
A well built guard with a quick first step to get into the paint and a broad upper body to absorb contact and finish, Rumley's best asset is his ability to make plays going to the rim, but he's worked hard to develop his shooting range from beyond the three-point line as well.
Rumley was a marked man as a senior, but still averaged nearly 16 points per game on an efficient 48% shooting from the floor. He's also a talented on-ball defender, averaging 2 steals per game this year.
The five-foot-ten Hamilton came to Williston for a post-graduate year from his home in Queens Village, New York and made an immediate impact, asserting himself as one of the top three-pointers in class A and helping the Wildcats to a NEPSAC championship in just their first year in the class A ranks.
A scoring guard, who should continue to do his best work with his jumper at the next level, Hamilton figures to be an ideal compliment to the playmaking and driving abilities of Rumley.
Another LEC program, Rhode Island College, has continued to add what is expected to be a big recruiting class under first year head coach Michael Byrnes, with Taunton High School's Cory Green, St. Clement's Brandon Williams and Brighton's Jason Jones.
Green won the prestgious Dave Cowens Award and was named an all-star in the Hockomock League following a big season at Taunton High School in which he averaged more than 20 points per game and led his team to a 20 win season and a spot in the South Sectional Semifinals.
Williams, a five-foot-seven point guard for St. Clement's, helped lead his team to a state championship as a junior followed by a trip to Division 4 North finals in his senior year.
While Green and Williams will help boost the backcourt, Green will provide an important addition up front. The six-foot-five power forward was a major contributor for a strong Brighton team this year with his ability to not just score inside, but also blocks shots and rebound.
