Weekend Brings Two NE-10 Commitments
Zach Dugas is headed to St. Anselm’s next year. The 6’2” point guard, who was receiving a good deal of division I interest, decided to pull the trigger and commit to the Hawks after playing with the Connecticut Basketball Club this weekend in Pittsburgh.
“I just think this is the best fit for me,” Dugas said when asked why he chose to commit instead of waiting on division I offers. “I’m real happy to be going to St. Anselm’s.”
St. Anselm’s should be real happy to have Dugas as well. Not only was he one of the best overall point guards remaining on the board, but he is a player who should be able to step right in and play immediate minutes. He has a well rounded and versatile offensive game and has also done a nice job of building up his body so that he should have little difficulty dealing with the physicality of college basketball.
“The opportunity to play right away was important to me,” Dugas conceded. “But it also helped a lot that they have John [Mariano] there as well.”
Dugas and Mariano got to know each other while sharing the backcourt with CBC for the better part of their high school careers. Next year they will be reunited in the Hawks backcourt, where they will be joined by another Connecticut product, Thomas Baudinet, who averaged over 14 points per game this year as a freshman. With that threesome in place for the next three years, St. Anselm’s has a talented group of guards to build their team around.
Stonehill Adds Tongo
Andre Peter Tongo also committed this week as he opted to become a Skyhawk. He is a very powerful guard who does a lot of things well. Offensively he goes strong to the cup and can also make shots from the perimeter when his feet are set. However, his most immediate impact at Stonehill may be on the defensive end of the floor where he has the potential to lock down the oppositions best perimeter scorer.
