Vonleh Down to Six

New Hampton forward Noah Vonleh made national headlines late last month by returning to his original class of 2013.  Now, less than four weeks later and Vonleh has cut his list to just six schools and begun to set up visits.

Indiana, Ohio State, Georgetown, Syracuse, Connecticut, and North Carolina remain in the mix for the seventh ranked player in the ESPN 100.  Here’s a look at each of his options:

Syracuse – It was over three years ago that Jim Boeheim was the first high-major head coach to travel to Haverhill High School to see Vonleh workout.  Now, Syracuse will be the first school to host the talented forward for an official visit.  He’s heading north on the weekend of November 3rd.

Indiana – The Hoosiers are set to get Vonleh’s second visit on the weekend of November 10th.  There are longstanding Indiana/New Hampton ties, as Dave Telep detailed in his recent story, but credit current head coach Tom Crean for working hard to make himself a factor early here.

Ohio State – Thad Matta is still looking for his signature recruit in the 2013 class and Vonleh has every opportunity to be that guy.  Matta has reportedly been coming on strong as of late and could potentially host Vonleh for his third official visit during Thanksgiving break.

Georgetown – The Hoyas have rarely been linked to Vonleh’s recruitment up to this point and so they’re likely the biggest surprise of the list.  Like Ohio State, Georgetown head coach John Thompson III is hoping to get Vonleh on campus during the Thanksgiving break

North Carolina – The Tar Heels have always been considered one of the most logical destinations for Vonleh and so it comes as no surprise that they make the final six, but they’re not yet coming on as strong as the previous four and so they’ll need to make a push to get this done.

Connecticut – They’re reportedly on the outside looking in, but if Vonleh decides to stay close to home the Huskies will be the choice.  There isn’t a head coach who would benefit more, as a commitment from Vonleh would go a long way towards solidifying Kevin Ollie’s job status.
