Unsigned Senior Spotlight - Marlon Short

Marlon Short traveled across the country, from California to Connecticut, to play in the New England prep ranks and prove he was a division I player.

He was on his way to doing it too before he was derailed by injury.

While the injury cost him both the fall open gym months as well as the opening of the season, he was back to full strength down the stretch of the year, and not coincidentally, Canterbury was able to capture the NEPSAC Class B championship.

Unfortunately though, the early injuries, coupled by the cancellation of the spring season, left him disadvantaged and under-recruited, which is why he remains available now.

Recommendations

"Marlon is 6'5 with length and athleticism. He can really score the ball. He's excellent in transition, constantly gets in the paint, can finish above the rim and has a variety of different finishes around the basket. He's a very tough cover 1 on 1. He's got a reliable midrange game and stepped his range back beyond the 3pt line this year as well. He's much improved as a passer and is able to find the open man when the help steps up to him. Marlon is also a two-way player who has the size and length to guard big wings and perimeter forwards and moves his feet well enough to stay with quick guards-his defensive versatility was huge for us. Marlon was All-NEPSAC and averaged over 14ppg as a junior, but battled unfortunate injuries this year which held him out of 12 games, and he played several others while trying to return to form. Marlon got close to full strength as we headed into the playoffs and he lead us in scoring during our championship run while shooting 53% from the floor with a number of clutch baskets. Marlon made tremendous growth in all areas this year and he was poised for a big year. When healthy Marlon is among the best wings in New England."

Scouting Report

Short is an athletic wing with good positional size. He thrives in the open floor, both with his ability to get into passing lanes defensively to start the break and also fill lanes and finish above the break. He's made steady strides as a three-point shooter in the half-court but is particularly adept at scoring over smaller defenders with his pull-up game.
