Mercer made national headlines this season, winning the Atlantic Sun Conference championship and then scoring an upset win over Duke in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Following the win, Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski went into the Mercer locker room to congratulate the team in a moment that was captured by media outlets throughout the country.
In Strawberry, Mercer is getting as battle tested a guard as there was left in the country, starring at national powerhouse Mater Dei High School in California before doing his post-graduate season at South Kent, where he competed in the top prep school league in the country.
The son of former Major League Baseball star Daryl Strawberry, Jordan comes from a long line of talented athletes including his older brother D.J. Strawberry (who previously starred at Maryland) and uncle Miles Simon (who previously starred at Arizona).
Jordan is a versatile two-way guard who knows how to impact the game without having to dominate the ball. He's well equipped to run a team, but is also capable of sliding of the ball and being more aggressive with his individual offense. He's also a very good defensive player.
Strawberry becomes the fifth member of this year's South Kent team to earn a scholarship joining Schadrac Casimir (Iona), Dusan Perovic (Binghamton), Romello Walker (Binghamton), and Jules de Courtenay (St. Thomas Aquinas).
