Shooting his Way into the Record Books

When Derek Retos’ high school career comes to an end next month his name will be etched into the Brimmer & May record book in a couple of different spots.

He is already the school’s leading scorer with 1700+ points and also the school’s all-time leading three-point shooter with over 200 in his career.

“Derek has had an incredible career,” said Brimmer & May head coach.  “There’s not a harding working kid anywhere.”

Of course Retos’ best known assett is his ability to shoot the ball.  One of the top three-point shooters in New England for the last several years Retos can catch fire at anytime and shoots it with incredible range.

This season, despite the fact that he faces opposing defenses on a nightly basis that are geared towards stopping him, Retos is still averaging more than three three-pointers per game and shooting 49% from behind the arc, which is actually down from a season ago.

He’s also averaging 17.4 points per game and shooting over 90% from the free-throw line this year.

With his high school career almost a thing of the past, Retos recently decided where his career will go next and that is to Brandeis University.

“I’m glad he found the right combination of academics and athletics,” said Kristof.  “Derek has a great I.Q. and I think he is going to be able to step right in, plays minutes right away, and have a great career.”

Retos is the fourth local product to commit to Brandeis for next season joining St. Andrew’s Youri Dascy, Proctor’s Ben Bartoldus, and Tilton’s Alex Stoyle, giving the Judges a tremendous class of four scholarship level players for next season.
