Five Standouts from the HoopHall Prep Showcase

This year's Prep Hoophall Showcase brought together a ton of talented players from across the world to Springfield Massachusetts for four great days of basketball. While being at the event there were many D1 scouts as well as fans that poured in to make this another very successful showcase. There were many top players from around the country that came to participate and in this article I will break down five that really caught my eye.

DJ Brown of West Nottingham had a standout weekend for his team. In the two games I got to watch him play he went for 28 points and 12 rebounds in the first game and finished with 24 in his second game. Brown is a 6 '3 guard that will be joining Sacred Heart’s roster next season and he will bring a ton of enthusiasm and skill to their team. He displayed a ton of athleticism this weekend with many strong finishes through contact, including a few high flying posters. He is very confident in his shot and he should be because he can knock down mid range and three point shots with ease. He put up very efficient shooting numbers during both games and made smart shot taking decisions.

My next standout is someone who has been having a spotlight junior season for Cushing and has seen a ton of offers come his way as a result. Ryan Moesch is a highly skilled 6’0 guard that is one of the best playmakers I saw all weekend. His ball handling was very skilled and he found open teammates during both games I watched. During a big time matchup against Mt.Zion Prep he contributed 23 points while going 6/8 from three. He made big plays and hit clutch shots to help lead his team to a big win. He is a clear leader on the court and you can see that his teammates and coaches trust and respect him a ton.

Out of Tilton Academy is another good guard in Anthony Vick. He stands at 6’4 and is very quick with a strong ball handling ability. In his game against Cheshire Academy he was crucial in helping his team get a come from behind win. He finished with 37 points going 7/12 from three. One thing that stood out during that stretch was his confidence. He took smart shots and worked the ball around well in order to create for his teammates.

Kyle Benjamin out of St. Andrews is a 6’6 wing player that has tremendous scoring ability. In the two games I saw from him, he went for 27 and 28 points. He shot 20/36 from the field throughout both games showing his efficient shot selection. He has size that allows him to finish well at the rim as well as shoot the ball at a high clip from three. His defense is also very good because he is athletic with size which allows him to guard one through four. He shows good leadership to his team and has a sheer nature to win.

My final standout from the weekend was a sophomore guard from Milton Academy in Reece Ayala. He is a 6’4 point guard that loves to score the ball and rebound. He went an efficient 9/14 from the field in a close game against Loomis Chaffee. He has a good frame for a point guard and it allows him to drive by defenders and finish through contact consistently. He also is not afraid of contact and embraces it on the offensive end and he eats it on the defensive end. He plays tough defense anywhere on the court and looks for steals and blocks whenever he can.
