Seaforth Says Yes to Iona
Hamden High School and USAD point guard C.J. Seaforth made a verbal commitment to Iona on Monday.
The Gaels became the latest division I school to offer Seaforth a scholarship earlier this summer after head coach Tim Cluess and associate head coach Jared Grasso watched him at the Big Apple Summer Showcase.
Seaforth had several other division I offers on the table and was likely to see his stock continue to rise but nonetheless decided to call it early for Iona following a visit to their campus on Monday.
While there had been discussion of Seaforth reclassifying by doing a post-graduate year following his graduation, his commitment is for the class of 2017 according to sources as he'll head immediately to New Rochelle following his senior year at Hamden.
Seaforth, who averaged almost 22 points per game last year for Hamden, joins Darius Hicks to become the second USAD product to commit to Iona in the 2017 class. That duo follows in the footsteps of rising sophomore Schadrac Casimir and incoming freshman E.J. Crawford, making it a total of four players from the USAD program who have now committed to Iona in the last three years.
Seaforth is a long and quick six-foot lead guard who is still just scratching the surface of his potential. He has the physical tools and instincts to be a high level playmaker on both ends of the floor and should thrive with the ball in his hands in Iona's up-tempo offense.
Below are some of his highlights from his junior season.
