Scholar Roundball Classic - Saturday Recap

The Scholar Roundball Classic tipped off on Saturday at Babson College with five games on Saturday afternoon as teams braved the snow to show out in front of college coaches.

Brimmer & May School 74 IMG Academy 62

Brimmer & May opened up a lead early and didn’t look back, leading by over 20 points for the majority of the second half. Jordan Minor set the tone early with his toughness on the offensive glass, that early energy translated to numerous dunks for Minor before the game was over. He ended with 26 points and 18 rebounds AJ Reeves looked good as well, showcasing his ability to score at all three levels on the offensive end for a game high 31. Brendan Favre led the way with for IMG while PG Jayden Hardaway showed impressive tools as well specifically on the offensive end of the floor.

Cushing Academy 64 South Kent 52

This game was back and forth from the tip all the way down to the final few minutes until Cushing was able to pull away thanks to the play of their point guard David Duke. Duke controlled the pace of the game down the stretch and got 14 of his game high 24 points in the second half with help from junior Kyle Murphy and sophomore Matt Cross. South Kent was able to hand tough behind Albany commit Malachi de Sousa impressed with his strength and athleticism, attacking the rim all day for the Cardinals on his way to 21 points.

Northfield Mt. Hermon 86 Master’s School 46

Northfield Mt. Hermon showcased their length early and often against Master’s to fuel their 40 point victory. The frontcourt trio of Noah Kirkwood, Nate Laszewski, and Max Lorca combined for 45 points while Chuck Hannah contributed 15 of his own. Lorca finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks. NMH was lethal in transition, made their 3-pointers, and locked down the paint defensively all game long. Master’s was led by Harry Warnock and Rakesh Tibby who had 11 and 10 points a piece.

Blair Academy 86 Kimball Union Academy 55

Tucker Richardson led the way for Blair Academy, the Colgate commit was making plays for himself and his teammates all game, showing some impressive vision to go with his 6’5” frame. After Blair established their lead they were anchored down the stretch by Jayson Oweh who finished everything around the rim in the second half. Kimball Union was steadied by Nick Timberlake who played well off the ball, cutting to the basket for several dunks. Sophomore Enoch Cheeks showed off his potential with athletic plays around the rim and active defensive hands as well for KUA.

The Hill School 74 New Hampton School 69

The Hill School looked like they were going to pull away late but Mason Webb of New Hampton hit three straight triples to bring NHS within 2 with under 30 seconds to go until William & Mary commit Chase Audige put the game away with a couple clutch free throws. Nick Alikakos was excellent in transition for Hill, finishing with 23 points, while Daquan Norris chipped in 14. Sophomore Dyonde Dominguez showed his high major potential for New Hampton with athleticism and a developing touch from outside while Mika Adams-Woods looked comfortable on and off the ball, making plays down the stretch in an ultimately short comeback effort.
