Rivard a Busy Man
Northfield Mount Hermon swingman Laurent Rivard has been a busy man over the last few months.
No player in New England logged as many miles between June and July as Rivard. Between playing with the Canadian Junior National team, his Expressions Elite team, and participating in the Nike Global Challenge, he traveled over 30,000 miles this summer.
But the NMH sharpshooter doesn’t seem fatigued in the slightest. In fact, few players were as active visiting prospective colleges in August or have as many trips scheduled for September.
Rivard is taking advantage of the three day Labor Day weekend to split time between two Ivy League campuses as he is visiting both Yale and Columbia unofficially this weekend.
Next weekend he has an official visit set up at Bucknell and the weekend following he’s scheduled to take unofficial trips to both Northeastern and Harvard.
He’ll wrap up his month with official visits to Davidson and Elon. Cornell and Penn will also get official visits according to NMH head coach John Carroll.
When we caught up with Rivard last week he told us that he had “no favorites” among the schools that he plans to visit although he has already ruled out a handful of programs.
He’s obviously looking for a top academic school, but specifically a school with a highly regarded computer science program.
And despite the plethora of terrific options the Canadian native already has on the table, he says he’s still open to new suitors.
“Stanford is my dream school,” Rivard told the New England Recruiting Report. “I visited the school when I was very young and they have one of the top computer science programs in the country. If they ever offered I would go.”
While the PAC 10’s academic powerhouse may be Rivard’s dream school, the NMH’er isn’t locked in on playing at the highest level possible. Instead he’s clearly giving deserving consideration to a variety of places where he could make an immediate impact.
And regardless of where Laurent Rivard ends up, some school will be very lucky to have him.
