Rising Senior Spotlight - Josh Ehikhamhen

It may sound counter-intuitive but there are sleepers in the city of Boston. Kids that are talented but under-the-radar for one reason or another.

New Mission grad Josh Ehikhamhen was one such player last year.

He had built-up his body, taken his game to new levels, and generated recruitment from a handful of local D3 schools.

He believed he was better than that though and so instead he chose an opportunity for a post-grad year at the Tilton School, with hopes of playing his way to the D1 level in the class of 2021.

Personal Statement

I want coaches to know that I am a very hard-working athlete. The moment I step foot on a court, I am the hardest working player there. I never take the game of basketball for granted. I know what it takes to win, and my passion can be felt throughout the gym.

Recommendations

"I’ve gotten the pleasure to play with Edo for the past 2 years and I wouldn’t replace him for nothing. He is a great teammate and always has something positive to say instead of bringing his teammates down. I would see him in the weight room and the gym almost everyday after school even when we didn’t have practice. He is the best teammate I ever had by far."
- Abubakar Aden, former teammate

"Edo is a athletic versatile wing with a variety of talents relative to basketball. He can defend multiple positions, influence turnovers off the ball and defend on the ball passionately. He is a late bloomer and will help a college program because of his skill set and athleticism. He  plays above the rim and finishes through contact regularly. "
- Cory McCarthy, Head Coach, Boston Warriors

"Josh has always been a big, physical guard that thrives slashing to the basket and playing through contact. Over the last year, he has really worked on his perimeter game, shooting and play-making ability. He is a prime of example of someone who has been under the radar and can leverage a solid prep year to put himself on the radar of college coaches at the scholarship level. Defensively, he could make an impact right now at the college level with his physicality, length, tremendous athleticism and versatility. Josh is a great kid who is fierce competitor and I believe will make the most of his prep year at Tilton to maximize his recruitment."
- Matt Gibson, former AAU coach & current trainer

Scouting Report

He's powerful, athletic, and aggressive. Physically, he has a college ready body right now, with chiseled muscle mass from head to toe. He's been known for his ability to play above the rim since he was younger and continues to be a threat to make momentum changing plays now. Ehikhamhen is not just a leaper though, he has great speed in his game. In fact, his ability to get downhill is one of the defining parts of his game. He attacks the rim with tons of sheer force, goes right through contact, and is starting to make plays for other people off the dribble as well. His athleticism is also a big part of his skill-set as he gets a lot of lift into the release on his jumper and has good alignment and rotation on his release. Defensively, his size and physicality allow him to guard as many as three different positions.
