Randall Stays in Connecticut
Post-grad Grant Randall from Putnam Science Academy recently announced his commitment to Tom Pecora and the Quinnipiac Bobcats of the MAAC Conference.
Randall transferred to Putnam Science in early January after having a tremendous start to his post-grad year with Mont Sports Academy in Florida. Heading into the season, he had zero college offers to his name, and by the end of December he pulled in five offers.
Jon Soch, a friend of NERR and fellow scout, has been influential in Grant's recruitment. He had nothing but good things to say about his upside and the skill set he brings to the table: “His blend of athleticism, shot making, high release, elite balance, physicality, and will to win is hard to match. If Randall’s shot wasn’t falling he would rebound and finish inside. On defense if he wasn’t strong enough he would take charges.”
He went on to say, “Randall is a winning player and that’s the most important thing that colleges are/should be looking for.”
There’s no doubt about that, as Randall’s arrival to Putnam Science helped the team turn things around after a somewhat rocky start to the season. The Mustangs went on to take home the Power 5 AAA title and NEBL league title, as well as fall just short in the National Prep Championship game last month.
The forward stands at 6'9", but in just the past two years or so, his height has changed significantly. Still growing into his body and learning how to play in the frontcourt, he possesses pure intangibles, and his upside has turned heads in his short time in the New England region. He recently turned 18 in December, graduating high school early and being one of the younger post-grads you will find.
Tom Pecora has openly voiced his belief in player development and taking on guys who want to grow both as players and as people into his system. With Randall, the upside is definitely present, and how his college career ultimately pans out is something we will eagerly anticipate.
