Prep Profiles 23-24 - New Hampton

New Hampton School, another member of both the elite NEPSAC-AAA and NEBL conferences, has started the year strong with an updated roster filled with high-level talent. They already have players signed to play in college as well. Let’s take a look at the intriguing lineup for this year, as they also take part in one of the first NEBL seasons…

“New Hampton looks like a true contender this season thus far. The City Rocks duo of Keyshuan Tillery and Mason Blackwood have really come into their own, playing off each other, and making a very dynamic 1-2 scoring punch for the Huskies. Oscar Edelman does the dirty work down low when needed, but is also a floor-stretching threat. Naz Meyer is an intriguing 3&D wing, with Ty Tabales providing a lethal outside scoring touch. 2026’s Jayden Harrington and Chad Cook have provided big minutes as underclassmen as well.” - Dylan Thayer

3 Things You Need to Know About This Year’s Team

New Hampton’s class of 2024 has some real talent…

Oscar Edelman is the only player on the team who has committed to play in college so far. He takes his talents to Middletown, CT to join Wesleyan in the elite NESCAC at the Division III level. He recently tallied 15 points and 6 rebounds in a big Granite State rivalry win over Brewster (Prep) at the Scholar Roundball Classic.

But the talent doesn’t end there, as newcomer Gargey Suryadevara played a role on back-to-back NEPSAC-AA Championship-winning Worcester Academy teams the past two seasons, LJ Quattlebaum averaged 7 points for a 20-8 Sacred Heart Prep squad last season, and Roman Leraris has proven himself with NE Storm.

2025s have taken on leadership roles…

Keyshuan Tillery and Mason Blackwood have really stepped up this season, as both earned All-NEPSAC recognition following last year, with Tillery earning First Team honors and Blackwood earning Honorable Mention. Tillery charted 12 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds while Blackwood grabbed 12 boards in New Hampton’s big win over Brewster (Prep) at the Scholar Roundball Classic, with arguably his best performance of the season thus far coming at the National Prep Showcase with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists.

Tillery has received offers from St. Bonaventure, Albany, UMBC, Washington, Wyoming, UMass, Temple, Bryant, NC A&T, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, and Syracuse. Blackwood has received offers from Siena, Albany, Buffalo, Marquette, George Mason, Bryant, George Washington, and Fordham.

Naz Meyer is a newcomer in the class of 2025 who has received offers from UC-Santa Barbara, San Diego and most recently Wyoming. He has proven himself time and time again to be a high-level recruit. He tallied 11 points and 4 rebounds in New Hampton’s big win over Brewster (Prep) at the Scholar Roundball Classic.

Even the 2026s are making noise…

Headlined by Ty Tabales, New Hampton’s class of 2026 keeps the same theme going with elite prospects. Tabales led New Hampton with 18 in their big win over Brewster (Prep) at the Scholar Roundball Classic. He recently began collecting offers, including from Bryant and Chicago State.

But there’s more, as Chad Cook has found ways to contribute, adding 11 points in a tough loss to Sunrise Christian at the National Prep Showcase. Jayden Harrington earned Top Performer honors at the BasketBull Hoopfest, shooting 5/5 from 3-point range to help give the Huskies a 1-point win over NEBL competitor Bradford Christian. Benjamin Safran is a sharpshooting youngster from Canada who will add to the backcourt depth this year.

3 Questions Heading into the Season

Can they continue meshing?

With a lot of talent on the roster, especially with so much of it coming from outside the class of 2024, it will be interesting to see how they can all play together throughout the season. Keyshuan Tillery and Mason Blackwood have carved themselves out as clear leaders—will any others use this season as a chance to step up to their level?

Will this team’s youth hinder their success?

At this point in the season, we can pretty much give that question an unequivocal “no”. They have managed to remain undefeated in the NEBL for longer than any other team. In fact, at this point, the next highest team in the standing has two losses, while New Hampton still holds an unblemished league record.

How will they compare to last year?

Last year, the Huskies advanced to the semi-finals of the NEPSAC Class-AAA Postseason Tournament. They had earned the #4 seed for their regular season standing, so they faced #5 Hoosac in the first round, winning by 15. They fell by only 7 to South Kent, who would go on to win in the finals by 19. It will be interesting to see how this season’s results compare to that of last year’s squad.

So far this season:

As previously addressed, New Hampton is the only undefeated team in the NEBL, and all others have at least two losses. Most recently, they defeated #2 Bradford Christian by 1 point behind a game-winner and player of the game performance from Keyshuan Tillery.

The Huskies have also seen success on the national stage, beating Mt. Zion Prep by 6 at the National Prep Showcase and Phelps by 13 at the ZG North/South Classic. There is an argument to be made for this being the most dominant squad in New England this year…
