Prep Profiles 2022-23 Season: St. Andrew’s School

Veteran head coach Mike Hart is back at the helm leading St. Andrew’s School in NEPSAC Class AA. While they may not have any so-called “big names”, there are still plenty of prospects worth keeping an eye on at the Barrington, Rhode Island institution.

3 Things You Need to Know About This Year’s Team

1. Cubit and Toney form an intriguing frontcourt

Dillon Cubit and Jaxon Toney both decided to attend St. Andrew’s for a post-grad year. Cubit is a big man with length, explosion, and budding creation skills. Toney is a forward who provides floor spacing, rebounding, along with bounce for above-rim finishing in space.

2. Cantwell provides scoring versatility

Another post-grad who will play an important role is Greg Cantwell. His ability to make treys off the catch, hit pull-up jumpers from fifteen feet, or cut at timely moments off the ball allows him to put up points in different ways. Cantwell also will spend some time playing on the ball for this squad.

3. Rodrigues and Spenard are back as seniors

Elijah Rodrigues and Pat Spenard both will be contributing again this season. Rodrigues is a spot-up three-point threat and has quickness guarding on the ball defensively. Spenard can score on the block, rebound at a consistent rate, and even hit an occasional open standstill three-pointer. Look for these two to help the newcomers adjust to AA.

3 Questions Heading into the Season

1. How will Marbury look coming off his injury?

Stephon Marbury II unfortunately missed all of last year with an injury. He has been someone on our radar for some time now but with the pandemic and his injury there have been limited evaluation settings available. It will be something to watch if the 2024 guard can give this squad another quality playmaking option.

2. Can DeThomas build off last year?

With Marbury’s injury, 2024 guard Anthony DeThomas was able to get more of an opportunity. While there were some ups and downs, the experience should certainly benefit him in the long term. DeThomas consistently gets teammates involved but also knows the right times when to look for his own individual offense.

3. Could Bianco or Panagiotis factor into the rotation?

While playing at the AA level as an underclassman is always difficult, St. Andrew’s has a pair of talented ones in 2025 guards Chris Bianco and Amir Panagiotis. They possess different skill sets that Coach Hart may decide could be better utilized in certain games. Bianco is further ahead in regards to shooting whereas Panagiotis provides a more dynamic playmaker.
