Prep Profiles 2022-23 Season: MacDuffie School

Head coach Tyrone Boswell is back for his second year at MacDuffie School. With the new faces he has brought in to fill various roles, they will be looking to take a step up in the NEPSAC AA pecking order.

1. Lemelman brings offensive versatility

2024 guard Jake Lemelman will be one who opponents have to spend a good amount of time preparing for. The southpaw can hit three-pointers when spotting up, stop & pop for fifteen-foot pull-ups, or find an open teammate if a defender collapses on him. Look for Lemelman to have some impressive outputs on the offensive end this season.

2. Nyakundi will be a constant presence inside

2024 big man Isaac Nyakundi will be this squad’s main presence in the frontcourt. He can hit jump hooks with his right hand, finish drop-offs for powerful two-hand slams, in addition to being a solid area rebounder. Nyakundi has the capabilities on any given night to go for a double-double.

3. Mucius looking to take a leap

2024 forward Myles Mucius is an intriguing prospect because of his 6’5 size and strong body. He has shown glimpses of hitting open standstill treys, floaters in the mid-range, along with some half-court/transition playmaking. The question is can he show any of these aspects consistently? If the answer is yes, MacDuffie will certainly be better for it.

3 Questions Heading into the Season

1. How will Lapierre adjust to a higher level of competition?

Hawthorn Lapierre was a standout in Oregon last season. The 2023 big man spaced the floor from deep, showed mid-post scoring ability, to go with pulling down rebounds at a solid rate. If he can translate those abilities at his 6’7 size to AA competition, it will surely attract college coaches' attention.

2. Can Francis build off last year’s momentum?

2023 forward Davin Francis was a part of the South Shore (NY) City and State Championship team last year. His explosive leaping ability, quickness at both ends, and three-point shot off the catch all should be welcomed additions to this squad. When games are played uptempo, Francis can thrive.

3. Will Bol factor into the rotation at all?

One of the higher upside prospects in New England’s 2026 class is big man Johnny Bol. While he has a ways to go in regards to building up his body, Bol already can do several things. The big man is fluid as a rim runner, provides weak side rim protection, and even has some touch making standstill three-pointers. While this season may be more of a development year for him, any minutes he does get in AA could pay off for the long term.
