Prep Championship Final Four Set

The Connecticut College gym was full of college coaches and fans alike as the top post-graduate teams in the country battled it out on the first day of the National Prep Championship.

By the time it was all said and done and done four teams had advanced to Wednesday's semifinals with Brewster Academy set to take on St. Thomas More at 11am and IMG Academy and Northfield Mount Hremon set to lock up at 1pm. The finals will be Wednesday night at 7:30p.m. Both the semifinals and finals will be streamed live by CoxHub.

Tuesday's action began with Tilton scoring a comeback victory over South Kent. The Rams passed the ball beautifully for all 40 minutes, operating patiently within their offense, especially down the stretch, when they came back to even the score at the two minute mark before holding on for a 70-66 win. Terance Mann had 15 points along with numerous rebounds and assists as his decision making was nearly perfect. Franklin Porter scored a team high 17 points, while again icing the game at the free-throw line as he did Sunday. South Kent was led by Tremont Waters' 23 points, including the 1000th of his career in the first half.

Hargrave Military Academy survived a talented Putnam Science team and passionate crowd in the second game of the day. Tyrone Taylor, Danjel Purifoy and Scott Meredith scored 19, 17 and 15 respectively for Hargrave while PSA was paced by Andrew Robinson's 24 points while Hamidou Diallo and Kealen Ives chipped in with 15 and 13 respectively.

The first quarterfinal match-up of the day will go down as one of the best prep school games in recent memory as St. Thomas More outlasted Elev-8 Sports Institute in an epic three overtime game. Christian Vital was the hero. It began with a 60 foot buzzer beater and potential game winner in the first OT and while that would eventually be ruled after the buzzer, his offensive put-back at the end of the second OT kept the Chancellors alive and forced a third period. Elev-8's unsigned tandem of Kobie Eubanks and Yankuba Sima both dazzled in stretches for Elev-8, proving why they are among the best available prospects in the national class.

The defending champions, Brewster Academy, took a 41-30 halftime lead into the locker room before ultimately pulling away from Tilton for a 78-59 victory. Five players scored in double figures as Jalen Adams, Justin Simon and David Crisp all had 12 while Donovan Mitchell had 11 and Marcus Derrickson 10.

IMG earned their spot in the semis by knocking off Hargrave, in their second game of the day. Rosel Hurley had 15 points and Tennessee bound junior Romell White had 13.

NMH punched their ticket to the semis with a win over Notre Dame in the nightcap. A.J. Brodeur had 20 points for NMH while Aaron Falzon and Collin McManus had 16 and 11 respectively. Jerry Johnson led the way with 15 points.
