Prep Bound

Here is a look at some of the recent prep school commitments since we last brought your our first prep bound article.

Tabor Assembles Class

Tabor Academy head coach Chris Millette has put together his first recruiting class in the NEPSAC and is adding a handful of talented young players to build his program around for the next several years.

Four new basketball players will head to Tabor next year in C.J. Ward, Josh Downes, A.J. Maestas, and Curtis Cobb.  Ward and Downes will be transferring from local MIAA schools in Plymouth North and Sandwich while both players will also be repeating their sophomore years and joining the class of 2013.

Maestas and Cobb are two youngsters that have already made names for themselves on the AAU circuit with the Bay State Jaguars and BABC respectively.

Cheshire Lands Local Point Guard

Ben Gilbert, a five-foot-eleven point guard from Wellesley High School in Massachusetts, will head to Connecticut for his post-graduate year.

Cheshire Academy will be the final destination for Gilbert as he looks to improve his recruiting stock and prove his worth as a point guard prospect for the next level.

A heady floor general with a fundamentally sound skill set, Gilbert will join a Cheshire Academy team that was one of the top programs in the Western New England Conference this season and returns one of the region’s top prospects in rising senior forward Eric Katenda.

Two New Englanders to St. Thomas More

Two local New England products in Indiana Faithful and Jarell Byrd are reportedly planning to attend the St. Thomas More School in Connecticut for post-graduate seasons next year.

Faithful is a six-foot-three point guard who led Cheverus High School to a Maine state championship in his senior season while earning a variety of post-season accolades.  A crafty lead guard with a European style game, Faithful is expected to generate a wide variety of interest from scholarship level schools.

Byrd plans to STM after graduating from Lynn English High School according to his father.  The six-foot-three swingman has all the tools to blossom into a highly sought after prospect and will undoubtedly benefit from the guidance of Chancellors’ head coach Jere Quinn.

Marianapolis on a New Mission

Ousmane Drame helped New Mission High School to an MIAA state championship this year and intrigued a variety of college coaches in the process with his length, skill set, and deceptive athleticism.

Having only played the game competitively for two seasons, Drame is still just learning the game and definitely has his best basketball still in front of him despite having made huge strides as of late.

He’ll continue his progression next season as he heads to Marianapolis Prep for a post-graduate season, where he will undoubtedly have a long line of college coaches monitoring his progress.

PSA Lands Duo

Marianapolis’ next door neighbor, Putnam Science Academy, has added two players to next year’s roster.

In addition to Windsor guard Tyrus Weaver, who we reported on yesterday as part of his Windsor class, PSA will also add Anthony Henry, a six-foot-three guard from Abbott Technical High School.  A quick and athletic guard, Henry does his best work when attacking the defense.

Brimmer & May Adds Another

Brimmer & May continues to remake next year’s roster after graduating a talented senior class.  Justin Turner is the latest player to commit to Brimmer as he will transfer from Holy Name High School in Worcester and repeat his junior year.

A skilled attacking guard, Turner joins a group of incoming players that includes Marco Banegas, John Powell, and Adrian Oliveira

AAU Teammates Heading to Brooks

Two teammates from the Middlesex Magic AAU program will reportedly transfer to the Brooks School and repeat their junior seasons.

Anthony Barry and Connor Mahoney will leave Milford and Boston College High School respectively and combine to form the foundation of the Brooks program.

They form a talented duo as Barry is an athletic slashing swingman who does his best work en route to the rim while Mahoney is a super skilled wing player, best known for his shooting prowess from behind the three-point arc.

Vermont Native to Cushing

Cushing Academy has made it a habit of landing post-graduates from the Green Mountain State and they may have recently received their best one yet in point guard Kyle Callanan

Callanan recently completed a tremendous career at Mount Anthony Union High School history, having finished as the school’s all time leader in points scored as well as assists.

Despite his long history of success on the high school level, Callanan has made a bigger impression on the AAU circuit as he has run the point admirably for the Albany City Rocks for the last few years.

CHS Guard Reclassifies

Christian Heritage guard Bryan Jones won’t be heading anywhere new next year but will be joining a new class as he will reclassify into the class of 2013 but stay put at Christian Heritage.

Jones, a talented scoring guard, has been running with the New York Gauchos on the AAU circuit thus far this spring.

Local Products to the Robinson School?

The NBE Basketball Blog reported last week that Danny Lawhorn and Jakarri McCallop will both head to the newly created Robinson School in New Jersey next year.

We were unable to confirm the story with either player or their respective coaches.

Lawhorn was previously committed to both Boston College and Fordham and has spent time at Hartford Public and South Kent while McCallop has starred for East Hartford High School for the last four years and was one of the top big men in the CIAC this season.

Switching Spots

After a year at the St. Thomas More School, Amadou Bah will make another stop in the NEPSAC before taking his game to the college level as he is reportedly heading to the Winchendon School next year.

Bah saw time in the STM rotation this year and figures to do the same next year at Winchendon with good size and strength to go along with good burst and a quick first step.
