Pittman, Colon & Stewart Heading D3
Three prospects who all earned championships in their respective leagues this season are the latest to come off the board in recent days as Ryan Pittman, Justin Stewart and Tyler Colon are all heading to the division III ranks.
Pittman starred for Bunnell High School (CT) and was one of the breakout players in the CIAC this season, leading his team to theird third straight SWC championship as well as the Class L state championship. Pittman was named Class L All-State after averaging 16 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals per game. He finished his career with over 1200 career points and finishes as the all-time leader in games plays, assists and steals in Bunnell history according to the New Haven Register. He's joining an Albertus Magnus team that went 28-2 this season, winning 24 or more games for the fourth consecutive season. The Falcons are a combined 108-12 over the last four years under head coach Mitch Oliver.
Another state champion, Putnam (MA) guard Justin Stewart, had made his decision as well. The versatile guard will head to Clark University in Worcester next year to play under head coach Paul Phillips. Stewart helped Putnam to a 2014 MIAA state championship and another trip to the finals in his senior year. He played through a lingering back injury at the beginning of the season but still went on to average 8 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists per game while earning honorable mention recognition on the All-Western Mass team. He ran with the Mass Rivals on the Adidas Gauntlet circuit last year.
Finally, Brewster Academy forward Tyler Colon is headed to Babson College next year according to Bobcats head coach Jason Smith. Colon is a six-foot-six forward who came to Brewster from California and also battled through injuries at the beginning of the year. However, he's a physical talent who continued to generate scholarship level interest into the spring and should be be a quality addition for a Babson program that made it all the way to the Final Four of the NCAA division III tournament this season. Colon was part of the Brewster Academy team that won both the NEPSAC Class AAA and National Prep Championships this season.
