Pemberton’s Stock Rising

In his first year at the Master’s School, Connecticut native Elijah Pemberton is in the midst of a breakout season and now has the scholarship offers to prove it.

Pemberton landed his first division offer last week from Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry, following his performance at the NPSI in Rhode Island.

An assistant coach from Hofstra was also in the stands and now Pride head coach Joe Mihalich is expected to be in attendance on Wednesday when Master’s meets MacDuffie in a Class AA match-up.

Pemberton’s recruitment has grown alongside his game in recent months. Best known as an athletic wing in the past, his skill set has improved exponentially in recent months, allowing him to develop into more of a true perimeter player.

“Right now he’s definitely a guard, but a scoring guard,” Master’s head coach Ralph Auriental told NERR. “He’s shooting the ball much better. His main thing is still going to the basket but I think people are shocked by the way he’s been shooting the ball, spotting up and off the dribble, too.”

Pemberton has averaged over 20 points per game along with close to 7 rebounds and 4 assists per night and should see a much more significant role with the New York Lightning this spring and summer as he makes his second appearance in Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League.

“He’s still got a long way to go,” Auriantal said. “Our goal this year was to get him to be a better shooter without taking away from doing what he does best, which is scoring, but he’ll handle the ball even more next season.”
