Parrom Following Miller to Arizona
Kevin Parrom, who originally committed to Xavier this fall, will follow former Musketeers head coach Sean Miller to the University of Arizona.
Former Xavier assistant coach Emmanuel “Book” Richardson also made the move from Xavier to Arizona, and that was no doubt an important factor in Parrom’s re-recruitment.
Richardson, the former director of the New York Gauchos AAU program, had been the lead recruiter for Parrom throughout the entire process.
“I’ve known Book for a long time and I’ve known him from the New York Gauchos and we come from the same area,” Parrom told scout.com’s Evan Daniels. “I’ve known him for a long time. But I have a great relationship with the other coaches on the staff too.”
Upon opening his recruitment a few weeks back, Parrom was considering both Arizona and Xavier the second time around as well as a host of other schools including Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Providence, and Rhode Island.
“When coach left I had to take a step back and rethink my options,” Parrom said. “It was a little confusing at the beginning because I didn’t know if I wanted to go out west.”
But once the 6’6” swingman got to the Tucson campus this weekend, he knew that was where he wanted to be.
“It was a great visit. I got to see the campus and see the fans and meet the academic advisors. It’s a great place to be,” Parrom told SNY’s Adam Zagoria. “Coach said the Xavier and Arizona situation is like going from a Buick to a Lexus and I completely understand what he’s talking about.”
Parrom traveled to campus this weekend with his mother and also got a chance to spend time with the Wildcats other two incoming freshmen, Solomon Hill and Kyryl Natyazhko, both of whom also visited campus this weekend.
Arizona is also one of two schools who remain in the hunt for New York’s Lance Stephenson, one of the top players in the country this year.
Parrom spent this past season at the South Kent School where he helped to lead the Cardinals to one of the best seasons in school history, finishing the regular season atop the Class A standings, advancing to the final of the post-season tournament, and qualifying for the National Prep Championship.
Parrom is best known for his versatility on the floor as he can do a little bit of everything. He’s a strong dribble drive player, a good passer, a capable defender, and an excellent offensive rebounder from the perimeter. He spent a good part of this year working on his jump shot and is now much improved in that area as well.
He’s ranked among the top 100 players nationally by the vast majority of the national scouting services.
