One of Nation’s Best Could be Headed to Winchendon

John Riek was perhaps the most dominant high school player in the country this summer.  He starred at the Lebron James Skills Academy where virtually every media outlet was in agreement that he was head and shoulders (no pun intended) above the competition.

Around that same time the rumors began to swirl that the talented big man would transfer to the Winchendon School for the upcoming season.  But those plans apparently changed by August as Riek appeared to be staying put at Our Savior New American.

But now Goodman reports that multiple sources are saying Riek is once again planning to attend the Winchendon School this year.  And if that is the case his next step may be to the NBA as he is old enough to meet the age requirements of the NBA draft set forth by the collective bargaining agreement.  After his dominant summer Riek’s professional stock is very high as many consider him to be a sure thing lottery pick and potential number one overall selection.

Despite being labeled as a sophomore last season at Our Savior, if Riek does enroll at the Winchendon School this year it is likely to be as a post-graduate.

"When we reviewed his records, we have a diploma stamped from a high school in Ethiopia saying he graduated," Winchendon coach Mike Byrnes told FOXSports.com. "If John does come here, he's coming as a post-graduate and not to get his high school diploma."

One thing is for certain…If Riek does end up at Winchendon, his presence will immediately change the landscape of the race for this year’s NEPSAC title, as he will immediately become the most dominant player in the region, if not the entire country.
