Notre Dame Swingman Headed to NYC

Lamount Samuell Jr., who spent the past season at Notre Dame Prep, made a verbal commitment to Robert Morris head coach Mike Rice earlier this week and signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, the first day of the spring signing period.

Samuell is an explosively quick guard who is capable of creating his own shot on demand.  He saw recruitment from places like Seton Hall and South Florida this year before deciding on Robert Morris, a place where Notre Dame Prep head coach Ryan Hurd says Samuell can have both individual and team success.

“It’s the perfect level for him,” Hurd said stating that Samuell will have the opportunity to see immediate minutes and the freedom to make plays all while playing for a winning program.

Robert Morris has won back-to-back NEC championships and gave Villanova a scare in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, taking the second seeded team to overtime.

Samuell will join reigning NEC Rookie of the Year, Karon Abraham, to gave Robert Morris an explosive backcourt duo for the next three years.

Rice was one of the hotter names on the NCAA Coaching Carousel but signed an extension at Robert Morris through 2017 despite interest from higher level conferences.
