2026 NE Frosh Soph #E75 - Best of the North Guards pt. 3
Benjamin Heyward, Homeschooled: Heyward is a skilled guard who can get it done on three levels, but excels shooting the ball. He has a higher release allowing him to get a shot off even with a defender playing him close. He is very confident beyond the arc extended and has a quick trigger both off the catch and dribble. Heyward has good size for a guard and uses it to his advantage getting to the rim. He is a good athlete who can also play above. Ben also fills the stat sheet as he is a very solid rebounder and passer, who also works hard on defense collecting steals and blocks. Heyward is a well rounded player and will be worth watching how he develops going forward.
Logan Sullivan, Andover HS: Sullivan has really come into his own over the past year, and is in the spot to be a major piece at Andover HS going forward. Sullivan can really shoot the ball at different levels of the court, and he his continuing to build on his athleticism and toughness. He doesn't take a possession off playing very hard, he is only scratching the surface, the continued hardwork will only push him further. Will be an exciting watch as a sophomore in the MIAA this season.
Jordan Diclo, Johnston HS: Diclo had an awesome summer playing on the Rise Circuit for the Rhode Island Warriors. The Johnston product is pretty efficient in picking his spots in the mid-range as he can be quick with his dribbles and rise right up. He's patient with a good tempo to throw defenders off their spots off the rip with moves to stop off two and make things happen around the basket. His toughness and physicality are already ahead of the game for his current age. The next steps will be to really develop his game into becoming a true point guard.
Darian Proctor, Tilton School: Darian Proctor is coming fresh from Colorado joing the Tilton School in NH. This past summer Proctor would be a major piece helping Tru Colorado 16U 3SSB to the elite 8. He is a quick shift guard who plays with his head up and sees the floor well. He can score on on three levels, but excels on pull up jumpers, or driving after setting up with a hesi. His development will be key, but he is certainly another strong young piece for this AA squad.
Jacob Venturini, Manchester West: The Manchester guard is extremely skilled with the ball and can get to his spots with ease. He can score off the dribble on all three levels, and his creativity allows him to get to the rim with ease. Either with his handle or a step through Venturini can finish with a layup or floater. He pushes the ball well and can find his teammates for a good look but also knows how to fill the lane. If he can show further ability off the ball and work off the catch it'll only improve his already skilled offensive game.
Terrence Clark Jr, Catholic Memorial: Clark Jr plays a very calm and confident type of basketball, nothing he does seems forced. He can score on all three levels, and can attack his defender with a shifty handle which allows him to create space for himself. He can control his tempo well and chooses his pace, but he can flip a switch and attack everything. He is an athletic gaurd who can get up for blocks and slice through the lane. He plays with a very high confidence and will certainly be a player to monitor at Catholic Memorial this season as he should play a major role.
Robert Diaz, Manchester Memorial HS: Diaz a freshman guard from Manchester, takes advantage of defenses with his stronger frame. He seems comfortable shooting the ball in the midrange, but truly excels down low. He works extremely well in the mid to low post, where he can get his defender in the air or using his frame to seal them off. Robert is also a solid defender and can guard multiple positions.
Erick Diaz-Casiano, Fitchburg High School: Erick Diaz-Casiano is a freshman guard can score on three levels, where he shows the ability to both create for himself scoring, and set up teammates with great looks. He has great size for a guard in his class and takes full advantage of it, getting to the rim and finishing but also collecting blocks on the other end. He is an intriguing prospect, and we will see how he grows and develops over his high school career.
Devon Descheneau, Central Catholic: Devon Descheneau offers the ability to get down hill and finish through and around contact, and can shoot the ball from outside. He excels off the catch is very comfortable getting a shot off quick even with a fast close out. Descheneau has also show some flashes of athleticism, the freshman guard certainly has a solid base to build on these coming seasons at Central Catholic.
Alan Twomey, Methuen High School: Alex Twomey offers solid size for a freshman guard, and he gets to his spots well in the half court and runs the floor well. On offense he can get downhill and finish through contact, as well as space the floor with his outside shooting. On the other end can play down low and come up with blocks. We will see over the coming years at Methuen HS where he is utilized as he is comfortable both inside and out.
Jayden Harvey, Randolph HS: Jayden Harvey plays with a very quick twitch and has an exceptional handle. On the ball he is able to create space effetively off the dribble but can also get downhill and finish around the rim. Though he is a very skilled scorer and dribbler, he also puts his teammates in great spots leading the offense. On the other end he has quick hands collecting steals then pushing the floor quick. Look to Harvey to play a major role at Randolph HS.
Gino Leardi, Lawrence Academy: Gino Leardi offers a solid offensive game, highlighted by a smooth handle and good playmaking ability. He is able to get downhill and finish around the rim as well as stretch the floor with his shooting ability. He showed off some flash at different times with his showcase squad while scoring it in different ways.
Yandiel Mejia, Malden Catholic: Yandiel Mejia is a scrappy guard how pushes the ball well in transition and is makes hustle plays. He is a great rebounder for a guard both on the offensive and defensive board. His active hands on defense allow him to score and create in transition. Mejia's speed helps him get passed a defender and finish at the rim. He shows flashes of athleticism, where over the coming years seeing how he develops there along with other aspects of his game will only benefit Yandiel.
Mychael Brown, Proctor Academy: Mychael Brown is a skilled guard who attends Proctor Academy, on the offensive end he has a quick yet smooth handle and is a very solid playmaker. Outside of his playmaking ability he is a very comfortable shooter from extended range. Going into this year it would be good to see if Mychael can score or create off fewer dribbles to show a different version of his skilled offensive bag.
George Valentgas, Barnstable High School: George Valentgas runs the floor very well giving himself many opportunities on the fast break. He offers very solid size for a guard with a longer frame. Valentgas can spread a defense out with his shooting ability as he works well off the catch from distance. On the other end he isn't shy to crash the boards, then push the ball.
Darwin Mendoza, Braintree HS: Darwin Mendoza is a skilled guard who can get it done many ways on the offensive end. Whether is it breaking a defender down with his handle, using his speed to get downhill or pushing in transition where he excels, or spacing the floor with his shooting prowess. He reads the floor and plays with a good IQ both on and off the ball, finding the lane well or cutting off the ball.
Sean Carlson, Thayer: Carlson is next up in the family joining his dad and brother at Thayer Academy this season in the class of 2030. He has shown some real flashes of strong lead guard play at his age as he can run the offense, direct traffic and make passes. He can get going as a scorer with some versatility to make shots from three and getting to the basket. He's in a really good spot to continue to develop while playing against high level competiton on a daily basis.
Cameron Chisholm, Groton: Chisholm brings a ton of energy to the floor as a scoring threat in the backcourt. He's able to step into and make threes from outside while using his body well to shield off defenders and get to the basket. He thrives at getting defenders in the air and scoring it off the bounce getting into the lane. Will be another young guard with upside joining Groton this season.
Jett Sizer, New Hampton: Jett Sizer is a great shooter from distance, he has shown he can get it done both on the move and off the catch. Sizer keeps his game simple getting others involved, which still plays. He is still growing as a secondary playmaker and developing his ball handling ability. Continuing to build these traits will advance his game allowing him to play on a broader level.
James Neal, Lewiston High School: James Neal offers good size at the guard position, which he uses to his advantage where he works well getting to and finishing at the rim. He sets this up will using his handle to beat his man getting to the lane. He offsets this inside and driving ability offering a solid shot from beyond the arc.
Zane Gaskin, Brooks School: Zane Gaskin plays a very smart but skilled style of basketball. He see the floor and knows how to work into space on the dribble, as well as be patient and find a spot off the ball. He is a solid scorer on the offensive end and is a very willing and able playmaker finding teammates all over the floor. On his drives he can finish around the rim or find a kick for an open shot on the perimeter.
Maclin Heald, Westborough High School: Maclin Heald is a good three point shooter, who is also comfortable taking up the ball and playmaking for others. He works well out of the triple threat and uses a half spin or spin out to get to his spot. He primarily works up top or on the wings on the bal, but can work to the corner off.
Julian Wattley, Barnstable High School: The Barnstable product thrived in his outing as a slasher/finisher around the basket, getting through the lane and making a number of shots off the glass. He was able to show his ability to play through contact as he converted some in traffic and got things rolling for his team.
Ryan Joseph, Hingham High School: Joseph is getting ready for his sophomore season in the MIAA and has seen more growth in his game over the past year. He's able to stop and play off two in the lane to score around the basket and continues to do a good job of playing through contact. He can make shots from outside and competes defensively too.
