D1 Recruitment Round Up 9/30/26

The fall open gym season has been underway for the past few weeks, and while college coaches continue to travel around the region to see recruits in action, plenty of players are beginning to come off the board.

Several familiar names from the New England prep and grassroots scenes have recently announced their college decisions, with commitments spanning the Ivy League, Patriot League, Metro and more.

Here's a rundown of some of the latest Division I commitments from around the region.

Samartine Hill | CATS | Fairleigh Dickinson

Incoming CATS Academy point guard Samartine Hill announced his commitment to Fairleigh Dickinson yesterday, following a strong summer on the Under Armour circuit with Team Thrill, where he complemented Houston commit Darrel Davis in the backcourt.

At 5'9", Hill brings a strong two-way presence to the point guard position. He uses his lower center of gravity to pressure the ball defensively and make life difficult for opposing guards. On the offensive end, he has a tight handle and an impressive combination of speed and toughness that allows him to consistently get into the paint.

Hill can run the show as a playmaker or make timely shots when his team needs them. The Maryland transfer should be a fun player to follow at CATS this season before heading to Fairleigh Dickinson.

Alonzo Archbold | Hotchkiss | Pepperdine

Few players on this list have experienced the level of winning that Alonzo Archbold has over the past year.

The Hotchkiss senior was a key piece of the New Heights squad that captured the 3SSB national championship this summer, giving him his second consecutive title after helping Hotchkiss win the NEPSAC Class A championship in March. He recently announced that he'll be taking his talents out west to Pepperdine.

We've had the opportunity to follow Archbold's development since his New England debut at the 2023 Frosh/Soph Elite 75. Since then, he's continued to make strides with his game, using his combination of size and strength at 6'7" to establish himself as a versatile forward. Archbold is a relentless slasher who can put the ball on the floor and finish through contact around the basket. He embraces the defensive end and has continued to develop his outside shot.

Hotchkiss will have plenty of new faces this winter, but Archbold returns as a proven winner and the program's first Division I commit of the new school year.

Dillon Callahan | St. Thomas More | Siena

Another familiar name from the New England basketball scene, Dillon Callahan recently announced his commitment to Siena.

Callahan arrived at St. Thomas More last season after transferring from Iona Prep and has continued to establish himself as a valuable piece on both ends of the floor. He also competed on the Under Armour circuit with the Middlesex Magic this summer and will again be an important part of a promising St. Thomas More AAA team this winter.

He's the type of player who can be thrown into a variety of situations and find a way to contribute. Callahan brings defensive versatility, using his strength and athleticism to handle different matchups while playing with a consistently high motor. Offensively, he does much of his damage around the basket, where he combines physicality with a variety of post moves and impressive footwork. His ability to embrace contact and finish through defenders should translate well as he prepares for the next level.

Stetson Merritt | New Hampton | Buffalo

Buffalo recently landed two commitments from the New England prep ranks, beginning with New Hampton guard Stetson Merritt.

Entering his second season with the Huskies, Merritt has developed into an intriguing scoring guard with a creative offensive game. At 6'3", he's about as crafty as they come, using his handle and ability to change directions to keep defenders guessing.

He has excellent touch in the lane and can create scoring opportunities in a variety of ways, whether breaking down his matchup off the dribble or getting into his pull-up game. His outside shooting has continued to improve as well. Merritt is still developing physically, but his combination of skill, creativity, and scoring instincts gives him plenty of upside as he prepares for his college career.

David Lunn | CATS | Buffalo

Joining Merritt at Buffalo will be David Lunn, a 6'5" wing who recently announced his commitment ahead of his first season at CATS Academy.

Lunn arrives in New England from Volcano Vista in New Mexico and brings a rugged, physical approach to the wing position. He's a tough defender who uses his length to disrupt passing lanes and make things difficult for opposing players. His defensive presence and willingness to embrace physical play should make him a valuable addition to CATS this winter before he heads to Western New York to continue his career alongside Merritt.

Lucas Lau | Winchendon | Columbia

Winchendon newcomer Lucas Lau announced his commitment to Columbia on Friday night, giving the Ivy League program a skilled point guard with an impressive feel for the game.

The California transfer is a natural facilitator who sees the floor well and consistently looks to make the right play for his team. His decision-making and understanding of the game are evident when he has the ball in his hands, allowing him to create opportunities for himself and his teammates. Lau is also a talented shotmaker who can knock down difficult looks at multiple levels. He's comfortable pulling up from three or creating off-balance shots in the mid-range, while his quick first step allows him to get past defenders and attack the basket.

He'll look to bring that combination of playmaking and scoring to Winchendon this season before heading to New York City.

A'Mire Gill | Masters Academy International | Miami (OH)

Masters Academy International added another Division I commit to its inaugural roster when A'Mire Gill announced his decision to join Miami (OH).

The Ohio transfer is coming off a productive summer with Phenom United, where he averaged more than 10 points per game. He'll now join Jason Smith's newly formed program in Stow, Massachusetts, giving MAI another talented scoring option in the backcourt. At 6'3", Gill is a multilevel scorer with a refined offensive skill set. He's a capable shooter who is particularly effective off the catch, but also has the ability to attack defenders off the dribble and finish difficult shots in the lane with impressive body control.

Gill should fit nicely into the MAI system as the program looks to make a statement during its first season competing in EYBL Scholastic.

Jabari Edmonds | Phillips Andover | Navy

New England native Jabari Edmonds recently announced that he'll continue his basketball career at Navy following his senior season at Phillips Academy Andover.

Edmonds played an important role for an Andover team that reached the NEPSAC Class A championship game last March and will look to help the program make another run this winter. At 6'5", Edmonds has a strong, physical build that he uses to his advantage on both ends of the floor. He's a crafty slasher who can create opportunities off the bounce, using his strength to get defenders off balance and finish through contact around the basket.

A longtime fixture with Team New England, Edmonds put together an impressive grassroots season that resulted in several scholarship offers before ultimately choosing the Midshipmen. He'll return to Andover as an experienced piece of a team looking to build on last season's success.

Julien Wiggins | Westminster | Bellarmine

Julien Wiggins became another Division I commitment from the Middlesex Magic program when the Westminster School point guard announced his decision to attend Bellarmine.

Wiggins brings impressive speed and burst to the point guard position, using his quickness to break down defenders and consistently find his way into the paint. He's a capable ball-handler who can control the offense, create opportunities for teammates and make sound decisions with the ball in his hands. His combination of athleticism and playmaking gives him the tools to be effective both in transition and in the half-court.

The Westminster guard will look to put together a strong final season in Class B before making the jump to the Division I level.

Sam Owusu-Aduomi | Tilton | Dartmouth

Tilton School and BABC wing Sam Owusu-Aduomi announced his commitment to Dartmouth earlier this month, keeping the 6'5" wing in New Hampshire for the next chapter of his basketball career.

Owusu-Aduomi is coming off a strong summer with BABC on the 3SSB circuit, where he averaged just over 10 points per game while shooting 42% from the field. He's a skilled wing who can create shots at multiple levels and has a strong command of the ball for his size. His ability to handle defensive pressure and create opportunities off the dribble initially caught our attention, but his development on the defensive end has become an equally interesting part of his game.

Owusu-Aduomi brings a high motor and covers plenty of ground defensively, giving Dartmouth an intriguing two-way prospect to develop. Before heading to Hanover, he'll have one more season at Tilton, where the Rams have assembled a young and talented roster capable of making some noise in NEPSAC Class AA.
