NMH’s Platek Calls It

Northfield Mount Hermon shot-maker Andrew Platek made a verbal commitment to North Carolina on Monday.

The 6-foot-4 guard from upstate New York recently completed his first season at Northfield Mount Hermon School and it was an impressive one as helped lead NMH to a NEPSAC AAA championship.

It was more of the same this spring as the longtime Albany City Rock product took on a starring role with the program’s EYBL team and racked up scholarship offers after opening the season with huge sessions in both New York and Indianapolis.

He ended up with offers from the likes of North Carolina, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Butler, Miami and numerous others but decided that he was destined to wear Carolina blue.

“It felt right to me,” Platek told the New England Recruiting Report. “I’ve been able to transform my game over the last year and I want to keep pursuing the highest level of basketball I can, and play with the most talented teammates possible, because it will only continue to make me better.”

Platek, known as much for his toughness as his prowess behind the three-point line, shot 45% from the three-point line during EYBL play this season, while scoring 13 points per game on 49% overall shooting from the floor.

He also owns the basketball I.Q. and experience to match, having thrived at the highest levels of both the prep and grassroots landscapes.

Platek joins Jalek Felton, a playmaking 6-foot-3 guard and the nephew of former UNC star Raymond Felton, to form the Tar Heels incoming backcourt.

Platek becomes the third member of NMH’s 2017 class to commit to a division I school – joining Kellan Grady (Davidson) and Jerome Desrosiers (Princeton) – and is also the first player in NMH basketball history to accept a scholarship to North Carolina.

Below are some of his highlights from the recent Nike Peach Jam earlier this month care of Inside the Hall:
