NMH’ers Set for Academic All-American Game

Northfield Mount Hermon’s Mike Marra, Peter McMillan, Andrew McCarthy and Ryan Peters have all been selected to play in this weekend’s Feinberg Academic All-American Classic featuring the finest basketball players in the country who have also excelled in the classroom. 

This is the inaugural year of the classic and the event’s festivities will feature two games (North vs. South and East vs. West), a three-point competition, and a dunk contest.  The classic will be held at the 130 million dollar Citizen’s Business Bank Arena located 50 miles east of Los Angeles. 

Northfield Mount Hermon’s John Carroll has also been tabbed as one of four high school coaches from around the country chosen to head up the four squads.  He will coach Marra, Peters, and McMillian on the East team while McCarthy will suit up for the North All-Stars.  Marra and McMillan will participate in the three-point contest while Marra will also contend in the dunk contest. 

Other notable participants include:  David Wear (North Carolina), Tyler Wear (North Carolina), Leslie McDonald (North Carolina), DaShonte Riley (Syracuse), and Darius Morris (Michigan) on the east squad; Anthony Stover (UCLA), Brendan Lane (UCLA), Tyler Honeycutt (UCLA), Reeves Nelson (UCLA), Bak Bak (California), Jared Cunningham (Oregon State), Keegan Hornbuckle (Colorado), and Kelly Olynyk (Gonzaga) on the west team; Justin Cobbs (BYU), Garrick Sherman (Michigan State), Matt Vogrich (Michigan), Jack Cooley (Notre Dame), C.J. Wilcox (Washington), Angus Brandt (Oregon State), Andy Brown (Stanford), and Roger Franklin (Oklahoma State) on the north team; and Michael Dixon (Missouri), Nick Russell (Kansas State), Donnavan Kirk (Miami), Nolan Dennis (Baylor), Kyle Hardrick (Oklahoma), Glen Rice Jr. (Georgia Tech), Trent Lockett (Arizona State), and Carlos Lopez (UNLV) on the south squad.  Additional participants will attend schools including Pennsylvania, Harvard, BYU, Creighton, Air Force, and Princeton.

In addition to the all-star game and two contests, participants will also participate in an intense training session with NBA pre-draft trainer Joe Abunassar, mental training sessions with sports psychologist Graham Betchart, a college performance workshop with UCLA Academic Coordinator Kenny Donaldson, and a panel discussion with current division I players.
