NMH Sends Another Ivy
Northfield Mount Hermon has sent their latest product to the Ivy League.
Post-graduate power forward Jvonte Brooks made a verbal commitment to Dartmouth on Wednesday, choosing the Big Green over a variety of other division I scholarship offers.
“Dartmouth said they were looking to get tougher,” said NMH head coach John Carroll, “and they just did.”
For Brooks, his commitment is the conclusion of what has been a long process aimed towards one specific goal.
“The reason I came to Northfield was because I really wanted to go to the Ivy League,” Brooks said. “I had some stuff back west but my dream has always been the Ivy League.”
Brooks came to NMH after graduating from Foothills Christian High School in California.
“Dartmouth was the first Ivy to show interest this fall,” Brooks said. “I visited in October and loved the new coaching staff. Coach Cormier has NBA experience and he has brought in a bunch of young guys.”
Brooks got his most recent look at Dartmouth a couple of weeks ago when he and his NMH teammates attended the Dartmouth/Harvard game in Cambridge.
“I really liked the stuff they run, how involved Coach Cormier was with the players,” he said. “I saw in the fall that he really likes to work in player development so I think Dartmouth is going to make me the best player and student possible since it is one of the top undergraduate educations in the country.”
Brooks becomes the 12th NMH product to commit to an Ivy League School in the last five years and joins current teammate John Golden in Dartmouth’s 2011 recruiting class.
“John and I have had a really good relationship since I got here [NMH] and he was really a big part of the decision for me,” Brooks said.
Brooks, who is averaging close to a double-double this year, is one of six current NMH players headed to a division I school in the class of 2011 and one of four in the class headed Ivy.
