Niagara Gets a Good One in Kuakumensah
Cushing Academy's Greg Kuakumensah closed his recruitment on Thursday with a commitment to Niagra University.
The pledge is an important one for the Purple Eagles as Kuakumensah is one of the most versatile players in New England and has a long history of winning at the very highest levels.
He's spent the last two years at Cushing Academy, helping the Penguins to the NEPSAC AA finals as a junior and this year being a part of the core that led them to their first NEPSAC title in the last three years.
On the grassroots circuit, he has been a longtime member of the Mass Rivals and was a key contributor on the team that went 22-0 during tournament play in the month of July last year while sweeping every Adidas championship.
"Greg Kuakumensah is a winner in every way," Rivals head coach Vin Pastore said. "Niagara got an absolute steal. He's one of my all-time favorites."
He also comes from good stock as the younger brother of Cedric Kuakumensah, the former Brown star who finished his career as the Ivy Leagues all-time leader in blocked shots and is currently playing professionally in Europe.
Greg may not have his brother's size, but he's perhaps a better athlete and a similarly impactful defender. He was capable of guarding all five positions at the high school level and should be extremely versatile at the college level as well.
His commitment finalized the Rivals' 2017 class with all members of their national team committing to a scholarship level school including Providence, Virginia Tech, Purdue, UAB, Yale, Brown, Penn, Niagara, and Franklin Pierce.
