New Jersey ABC Program to Watch
Running a basketball event can be time consuming and nerve racking, not to mention when you're also trying to coach two of the top teams in the event. Matthew Pauls of New Jersey ABC showed he could do both when he co-sponsered the first ever Summer in the City event and also put a two top tier teams on the floor to compete.
Team NJABC capped a summer where their combined 16 and 17 year old teams posted a 26-5 record, including a perfect 4-0 in their trip to New England for the Super 16 Showcase. Here is a look at some of the players who have contributed to a successful run.
Khalid Lewis-6”3 2011 Trenton Catholic H S. A combo guard who can flat out score the basketball. A complete player who does everything well on the floor. Big East and A10 schools are leading the charge to add this player to their programs.
Chandler Fraser- Pauls – 5”11 2011 Pennington School. A coaches son and plays like that. Has a knack for passing the ball to put his teammates in position to score. Ivy schools have inquired as well as St Joe’s {PA}
Wayne Newsome- 6”6 2010 Piscataway H S. A big man who always wants to improve. Sensational work ethic. Has improved in every facet of game. Can score and rebound. Tremendous upside. Fairfield, Drexel, Rider, Binghampton, Marist, Albany, Quinnipiac and Robert Morris are pursuing to name a few.
Anthony Gaffney- 6”2 Pennington School. Very rare to see a lock down defender during the summer AAU season. Anthony is that player who can get it done on both ends of the court but excels at getting into you defensively.
Frantz Massenat- 6”3 PG Trenton Catholic 2010. No player has made a bigger jump in his recruitment then Frantz. Started with schools like Stony Brook, Boston University, Rider, LaSalle, Iona, St Joe’s, Temple, Drexel and Umass. Now has gotten the attention of certain Big East schools. Can contribute to a team in many ways. Does everything well. Can score 20 one night and then get you 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists the following night. Knows what it takes to win.
