New Hampton is Ready for March

The New Hampton School is one of the most fun teams in the March field I would say. Possessing great guard play and solid frontcourt pieces they should be a tough out. New Hampton is having a sensational season beating some of the best in the country already this year. The battle tested crew is 22-4 and beat the likes of IMG and CT monster, Putnam Science.
Let’s talk about this talented New Hampton perimeter.
To start, they have arguably one of the best point guards in the country 6’0 Keyshaun Tillery (25’ Cincinnati). Tillery is the classic mix of an extremely high-IQ smaller guard who just impacts the game in too many ways and at too high of a level. Tillery is a career: 26 mins, 12 points, 39% 3pt, 76% FT, 4.7 ast (1.9 ast/to), and 1.6 stls+blks (1.4 PF). Tillery also finished the 2024 EYBL 17u season top 10 in BPM (9.7 in 27 mins/g).
Tillery should be a positive contributor on day 1 in the BIG 12. His elite shooting, great playmaking, and tough-nosed defense at the point of attack should be an issue for any team in March.
Next, is 6’6 SG Naz Meyer (25’ Wyoming). A High-Major talent who has been providing High-Major production for New Hampton. Meyer has been putting together great game after great game and is considered one of the best shooting guards on the East Coast. Meyer has career averages of 14.5 mins 32% from 3pt on 3.5 attempts, 1 oreb, and 1.4 stls+blks (2.0 PFs). This year has been a huge usage leap for Meyer and he has run with it boasting multiple 20pt outings in National-level prep games.
To add to this lethal perimeter, 6’4 Jayden Harrington has been a strong piece. He isn’t a top scoring option but he is still a serious threat. Harrington averages: 27 mins 74% TS 55% 2pt 56% 3pt on 3 attempts (4.3 per40). His sure shooting will have to be noted by teams in March.
6’3 Ty Tabales (26’) plays a pivotal 3&D role for this squad as well. His shooting and ability to generate steals will be heavily valued in March. Tabales’ averages: 29% from 3pt on 4 attempts 82.2% FT, and 1.4 stls+blks (1.7 PFs). 6’5 Gus Fried (25’) finishes out their perimeter pieces.
New Hampton’s frontcourt is one of the smaller in March. They rely on their power 5 wing prospect 6’7 Mason Blackwood (25’ Penn St). His mix of secondary skills, plus-level athleticism, and ability to hit the spot up three make him so dangerous paired with that strong backcourt. Blackwood averages: 21.4 mins 54% TS 53% from 2pt 35% from 3pt on 3 attempts per40, 1.3 stls+blks (1.4 PFs) 3.0 Oreb per40 6 rebs ,and a 1.1 ast/to.
Next frontcourt piece is their 6’8 F Chad Cook (26’) who is their dirty work guy. Cook has solid averages of 50% from 2pt, 1.3 Oreb, 1.3 stls+blks(PFs). He is solid on the interior as a scorer, but shines as a secondary playmaker.
New Hampton made it to the final four last year, and looks to get back and more this season. They don’t have ideal size inside or out on the perimeter. They make up for that lack of size in having very high-level players who play with high effort. The trio of Tillery, Meyer, and Blackwood is as good as any in the Northeast, and in the National Prep Championship Tournament.
The shooting, defense, and offensive rebounding they are surrounded by could lead to a fun, slight underdog story. New Hampton will be a tough out nonetheless and should not be slept on as their top-end talent could swing a game quickly.
