New England 2014 Rankings Announced

Mid-way through the regular season and things have stayed relatively consistent atop the New England’s 2014 rankings.

Chris McCullough is starting to put the pieces together on a more consistent basis and that’s a recipe that should have him climbing back up the national rankings when they’re released early next month by ESPN.

Goodluck Okonoboh has also solidified his spot as the second ranked prospect in New England, adding a variety of new high-major suitors since the summer and continuing to distinguish himself as one of the premier shot-blockers in the entire country.

Abdul-Malik Abu didn’t necessarily have the start to the season he would have liked, but he’s come back in a big way to put KUA atop the AA standings all while reinforcing the talent, athleticism, motor, and character that made him one of the summer’s biggest stories.

Kaleb Joseph has continued to evolve into more of a true point guard, which has helped keep Cushing near the top of the AA leader board, while also helping his recruitment go to a new level with some of the higher profile national programs now getting involved.

Jared Terrell rounds out New England’s starting five.  He missed most of the fall pre-season after recovering from last summer’s injury but is again starting to show more frequent signs of his normal self with his open floor playmaking and scoring ability.

Terrell’s Brewster backcourt mate, Kevin Zabo, has shown well in his return to New England and is consequently up next in the sixth spot as a lead guard with a good amount of high-major recruitment.

Seventh ranked Paschal Chukwu starts a list of six straight frontcourt prospects, all of whom are attracting their fair share of high-major interest.  Beaver Country Day's Jacquil Taylor had been showing more consistent signs of stardom prior to his injury and moved up to the eighth spot as a result.  New Hampton’s Tory Miller sits in the ninth spot after his strong showing at the Hoophall Classic while Milton Academy’s Alec Brennan, Worcester Academy’s Matt Cimino, and Salisbury’s Samuel Dingba are next.

South Kent swingman Zach Brown and Vermont Academy big man Hassan Hussein, are two prospects with the upside to play their way up this list in future months, while 15th ranked Bonzie Colson is a guy who gets it done the old-fashioned way – straight production.

While big men dominated the first 15 spots in the 2014 rankings, the guards control 8 of the final 10 spots.  Makai Mason, Jeff Spellman, Cane Broome, Dimitri Floras, and Henry Bolton make up a deep and talented group of lead guard prospects while Jared Wilson-Frame, Kahari Beaufort, and Quincey McKnight are more of the swingman variety.

The top 25 rankings are rounded out by a pair of international products in South Kent power forward Dusan Perovic, who checks in at 19, and Holderness’ Willem Brandwijk, who sits in the 25th spot.
