New England 2013 Rankings Announced

What had the makings of a close race ended up to be anything but as Nerlens Noel has left little doubt as to who the top rising junior in New England is.  The six-foot-ten center has been nothing short of dominant in the Nike EYBL, earning national praise from Hampton to Los Angeles, and even tallying 12 blocked shots in a single game recently. 

Three players are currently in the hunt for the second spot as Kuran Iverson, Noah Vonleh, and Deonte Burton battle it out.  Iverson maintains the edge for now based on his size and guard type skills but Vonleh has picked his game up in recent weeks while Burton is yet another can’t miss prospect. 

When we released the New Hampshire rankings we said Goodluck Okonoboh was, incredibly, flying a little bit under the radar but that doesn’t take away from his tremendous physical tools and emerging basketball talent.  He consequently rounds out the top five. 

A series of guards are up next beginning with Beaver Country Day’s Rene Castro, the scoring point who has put up big numbers this year in the EYBL.  Jared Terrell is seven and rising after having a dominant spring AAU circuit and only needing to do the same this summer to continue to elevate his stock.  Vermont Academy’s Daquein McNeil is another guy whose stock is on the rise after standing out with his Baltimore Elite squad this spring.  Wilbraham & Monson’s Jaylen Brantley completes the top ten. 

The battle of the big men begins with Samuel Dingba.  The Salisbury sophomore arrived with the full gamut of physical tools and became one of the region’s most dominant defenders virtually overnight.  With tools to work with on the offensive end, his future is tremendously bright. 

Next up is Cushing Academy’s Andrew Chrabascz who has been underrated for years but only continues to be one arguably the most efficient frontcourt player in the class.  With two extra inches on his frame since last year he’s another guy whose stock is on the rise. 

A string of six more frontcourt players come next beginning with Green Farms Academy first year big man Sean Obi who is coming off a huge debut season.  Next up is Northfield Mount Hermon big man DeKeeba Battee who has been out this spring with a toe injury but has the size and athleticism high-major programs covet.  Ikemefuna Ngwudo is showing signs of transitioning to a true wing this spring and he is in the 14th spot as a result while Brimmer & May’s John Powell has showed well in the last couple of months as well.  Cheverus’ Matt Cimino and Cambridge’s Jacquil Taylor are two guys who possess the tools to shoot up this list if they can start to turn potential into production on a more consistent basis. 

Early Fordham commit Jake Fay sits in the 18th spot and is another guy with obvious long term potential While Capital Prep’s Kahlil Dukes is a prospect on the rise as a pure scorer who has learned to play a more unselfish floor game.  New Mission’s Nate Anderson and Stratford Bernard Brantley sit at 20 and 21 while Stoughton’s Aaron Calixte makes his debut at 22.  The final three spots in the top 25 belong to Jonesport-Beals’ Garet Beal, Kent’s Travis Berry, and East Hartford’s Cane Broome.
