Movement in Rhode Island 2014
On the surface, it might not appear as if not much has changed in the Rhode Island 2014 rankings: the top five players on the list haven’t changed since the summer; St. Andrew’s School still continues to produce more scholarship prospects than the rest of the RIIL combined; and the Saints’ duo of Henry Bolton and Bonzie Colson still sit in the top two spots.
However, within that group of five, plenty has changed.
Bonzie Colson has taken over as the state’s top ranked player, as the do-it-all forward has followed up on his productive summer by being a model of efficiency for St. Andrew’s, and leading them to one of the top starts in Class AA of the NEPSAC as a result.
Former #1, Henry Bolton, doesn’t slide far, and remains as the second ranked prospect in the state. The scoring guard is still a cold-blooded shot-maker, with a unique ability to make tough shots from the perimeter, and is also still considered one of the better backcourt prospects in New England.
Classical point guard Kealen Ives has made a noted jump up, going from the fourth spot to the third, but more importantly, showing an overall impact that far exceeds his physical size at the point guard position.
His jump knocks Tom Hunt, another St. Andrew’s guard, down to the fourth spot, but the reality is that Hunt has played the best basketball of his career in the last two months and has actually improved his overall stock relative to the rest of New England.
The fifth and final spot still belongs to Jerrelle Washington, one of the few attacking guards in the RIIL, who has that extra gear to play a similar style at the next level.
