More Commitments
• We told you last week that Victor Kashouh had committed to Wheelock. Well, that was just the tip of the iceberg as Head Coach John Preziosa has added nine players in his first recruiting class. Other New England products include point guard Kyle Pierce from Burlington High School (MA) who was a 1st team all-conference player in the Middlesex League while averaging 20 points per game and shooting 88% from the free-throw line, 6’8” center Eric Rice, 5’8” point guard Jordan Pina from New Bedford High School (MA), 6’1” swingman Gilbert Abel from Notre Dame High School (Lawrence, MA), and 6’3” swingman Patrick O’Connor from David Prouty High School (MA).
• Carl Mangum is headed to Virginia Union. VU is a division II school with a rich basketball history. During the 2007-08 season they went 22-8, were the CIAA Eastern Division champions, and advanced to the NCAA tournament. The school has won three division II national titles since 1980, with the most recent coming in 2005.
• Norwich University has finally landed the services of Josh Cabrera. Cabrera, who played for Classical High School in Providence and the Rhode Island Hawks AAU program, had been rumored to be headed to Norwich for several months, but just recently made it official.
• Cabrera’s teammate on the Rhode Island Hawks, Ryan Coburn, recently committed to Springfield College. The former West Warwick star combines good size and ability, and has the potential to eventually be an impact player at the division III level.
• Proctor Academy’s Zandy Bard is headed to Drew University next year. Bard is a skilled player with a high basketball I.Q. who should pay immediate dividends for the Rangers.
• Vukasin Bozovic is on his way to the Florida Institute of Technology. While the guard didn’t see too many minutes playing with Brewster Academy this year, the experience he got practicing with the NEPSAC champions will be extremely valuable as he heads to the division II level.
• Three commitments have come out of Winchendon as Ivan Gimbovic heads to Missouri State White Plains Junior College, Tim Russell to Shawnee State, and Eric Lenahan to UMass Dartmouth. All three should be impact players, but Lenahan has the potential to be a steal for the Corsairs.
• St. Thomas More’s Anthony Panebianco will walk-on at the University of Hartford. The 6’4” swingman spurned multiple scholarship offers on the division II level in order to join the Hawks.
• Jesse Sabolis won’t have to travel far next year as he moves from New Hampton to Plymouth State, where he will play in the America East Conference.
• The South Kent School has announced several commitments. Jervan Jackson is on his way to North Florida, Chris Rooths to Florida Memorial, Papa Fall to Roanoke, Keiran Ramsey to Southern Connecticut, and Stephen O’Reilly to Long Island in a recruited walk-on spot. Ramsey and O’Reilly both have to be considered steals for Southern CT and LIU. Ramsey, this year’s captain at South Kent, was being recruited at the mid-major level at one point, while O’Reilly had strong low major interest earlier in the year.
