Mobley Heading to Central Connecticut

Matt Mobley had a storied high school career at St. Peter Marian in Worcester.  He averaged over 23 points per game in his senior season, eclipsed the 1000 point plateau for his career, and earned post-season recognition from ESPN Boston as well as a host of other local media outlets.

Nevertheless, when Mobley’s high school career came to an end with no scholarship offers, he opted for a post-graduate year at Worcester Academy in hopes of pushing his recruitment to that next level.

After a successful AAU season, Mobley reached that goal only two weeks into the prep school year with a verbal commitment to Central Connecticut State University.

The news was first reported by New England Recruiting Report and ESPN Boston contributor Christian Bradley.

Mobley starred for the Blackstone Valley Chaos during the spring AAU season, earning an invitation to the New England Elite 75 Showcase in June.

Playing against the best competition in the region for the first time, Mobley seized the opportunity to make a statement and came out of the Elite 75 having intrigued a lot of people with his physical tools, motor, and upside.

After a standout performance at Hoop Mountain’s Super Week II, Mobley rode that wave of momentum right into the July evaluation period when he starred with the Bay State Flash.  His summer culminated with a run to the quarterfinals at AAU Nationals, as he stepped up to lead the team in scoring while also making game winning shots on two different occasions.

Central Connecticut became the first school to offer him a division I scholarship shortly after the month ended, and this weekend, amidst growing division I interest, Mobley gave head coach Howie Dickenman a verbal commitment while on the CCSU campus.

Mobley becomes the third player to commit to the Blue Devils in the 2013 class, joining six-foot-seven power forward Kevin Mickle from St. Benedict’s in New Jersey and six-foot-seven forward Rashard todd from Mount Carmel High School in Maryland.
