Miller Makes Choice
Little more than 24 hours after the July live period came to an end and Pete Miller was ready to wrap up the recruiting process.
Miller, who was widely recruited across the Ivy and Patriot Leagues (while also holding offers as high as the Atlantic 10), committed to Princeton on Tuesday morning.
“It was a decision that over-washed me and I knew I was ready,” Miller told the New England Recruiting Report. “It was a school that I knew I wanted to go to for a long time now, but I took my time and thought it over before finalizing my decision.”
Miller has been on Princeton’s radar since head coach Mitch Henderson took the reins of the program last year and reportedly played very well at their Elite Camp in late June. The Tigers were one of several high level academic schools to follow Miller closely this summer as he continued to run with the Middlesex Magic.
Miller has played for the Middlesex Magic since he was just 12 years old and is one of the few remaining players on the AAU circuit to have played for both current coach Michael Crotty Jr. as well as the program's former director, the late Michael Crotty Sr.
"In an age where a lot of players play for numerous AAU organizations, it is a special day for a young man that I was able to coach for so long, [along] with so many other Middlesex Magic coaches, including my father," Crotty Jr. said. "The entire Middlesex Magic family is so proud of Peter -- his hard work and determination has paid off, and we can not wait for the next chapter of his life at Princeton!"
Miller projects as an ideal fit at Princeton, not just because of the combination of athletics and academics, but also because of their style of play.
“He’s a six-foot-ten kid who has the skills necessary to handle the ball, make passes, play in the post or shoot threes so he’s ideal for the Princeton system,” NMH head coach John Carroll said.
“The style of play fits me perfectly,” Miller said. “I’ve been working really hard to improve my perimeter game and I think going to Princeton will give me an opportunity to, hopefully, make immediate contributions.”
Miller began his high school career at Winchester High School before transferring to Northfield Mount Hermon in the fall of 2011 and repeating his junior season. He’s the latest in a long line of NMH products to choose the Ivy League. In fact, he is the 16th player from the program to commit to the Ivy League in the last five years. NMH has now sent at least one player to every school in the Ivy League over the last four years.
“It’s a tremendous level of academics and athletics at Princeton,” Miller said. “NMH prepared me very well and I think it is a perfect fit.”
