McManus is Ivy Bound
It has been a busy few weeks for Northfield Mount Hermon six-foot-ten big man Collin McManus as he has taken a variety of unofficial visits to schools up and down the east coast. He made a decision on Thursday night though, making a verbal commitment to the University of Pennsylvania just 48 hours after landing the offer while visiting their Philadelphia campus.
McManus becomes the second NMH product to commit to Penn in the 2015 class joining fellow Middlesex Magic star Jackson Donahue.
NMH head coach John Carroll raved of the improvements McManus has made over the course of the last two years.
“He’s made huge strides,” Carroll said. “I don’t know that there is another player in New England who has improved as much as he has. Penn is getting a terrific post defender, a big man that runs the floor, is extremely hard working, and literally improves every time he steps on the court.”
McManus began his career at Bedford High School in New Hampshire, where he spent two years prior to transferring to Northfield Mount Hermon and reclassifying to 2015.
He was part of the NMH team that won a National Prep Championship in 2013 and saw his role increase dramatically throughout the course of his junior season, when NMH advanced to the semifinals of both the national and NEPSAC tournaments.
This spring, McManus has been the interior anchor of a Middlesex Magic team that has taken on all challengers, advancing deep into the field of virtually every tournament they’ve participated in.
McManus had offers from schools in the Ivy and Patriot Leagues, the America East Conference, and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference [MAAC].
