Mattos Lands First D1 Offer

New England Recruiting Report | Monday, February 20th, 2017

It has been a relatively long time since a prospect earned a division I scholarship out of the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association as the state's top local talent has a way of migrating into the prep ranks.

Last week though, Kearsarge Regional High School's 6-foot-9 junior big man Tayler Mattos showed that he may well be on his way to becoming the exception.

Mattos, who made his debut in the NERR 2018 rankings just a few weeks ago, has been putting up staggering numbers so far this season, scoring more than 40 points and grabbing 20+ rebounds on more than one occasion while averaging nearly 27 points per game.

University of New Hampshire head coach Bill Herrion and his staff have taken notice of the local product and on Friday night they were in to watch the Kearsarge big man. Hours after the game, they became the first division I school to offer him a full athletic scholarship offer.

That offer appears to be just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to recruiting attention. Mattos was among a group of players to take in UMass' game vs. Davidson on Saturday and Columbia University is expected in to see him play on Tuesday.
