Massachusetts Elite Camp – Event Recap

Last Friday marked the final day of of the 1st Annual Massachusetts Elite Camp.  The camp was set up as a combination team camp as well as a teaching and exposure camp. For the first year, the attendance at the camp was much more than the directors expected.   The talented group of campers featured a very solid group of point guards led by Jasper Grassa, Kadeem Monroe, Osmal Odena and many more who ran their teams effectively

Altogether, it was an excellent week with several players making a compelling case for scholarship and others breaking out and making a name for themselves in front of numerous coaches from the division II, division III, and prep school levels.

Making a Case for a Scholarship

Jasper Grassa, 2010, 6’2”, Lynn Classical- Grassa followed up on his outstanding Reebok Summer Classic with a solid performance. He shot the ball exceptionally well, consistantly making tough shots off the dribble as well as doing his customary work as an expert ball handler and tough defender.

Ousmane Drame, 2010, 6’8”, New Mission – This 6-8 big man (and growing) continues to improve by leaps and bonds. With his 7 foot wingspan, he blocked anything that came his way.  On the offensive end he was unstoppable in the post as well as stepping out and hitting open jump shots.

Jarrod DeVaughn, 2009, 6’2”, Brockton- Still unsigned, DeVaughn had an outstanding week. His body may be the most college-ready out of any guard in attendance. Getting to the rim, finishing, and showing an improved stroke from downtown, DeVaughn made the most of his opportunity

Khalid McCaskill, 2010, 6’5”, Andover Academy – This combo guard really exeretted himself on both ends of the floor.  Being 6-5 with a ridiuclous wingspan, he creates mismatch problems at both guard positions.  He had numerous dunks in traffic while his pull up game is greatly improved. Will be a steal for the right school.

Breakout Performers

Kadeem Monroe, 2010, 5’11”, Hyde Park – On day one all of the college coaches were asking who he was and where did he come from. With lighting quickness, Monroe got up and down the court as fast as any point guard in the field. A scoring point, he put the ball in the bucket both going to the basket as well as from the perimeter.

Osmal Odena, 2010, 6’0”, New Mission – Another player new to most coaches, Osmal has just moved back from Florida. A consummate point guard who got all of his players involved as well as defended from end to end.

Vic Washington, 2010, 6’5”, Brockton – Washington’s impressive body and exceptional explosion had all of the coaches looking to see more. When he wanted to, Washington controlled both boards and scored at will.  He’s presently looking for a high school or prep school for next year.

Marco Coppola, 2011, 6’1”, Watertown – Coppola continues to shoot the 3 ball like it is a layup.  He has added some bulk to his frame and is getting into the lane as well as rebounding on both ends.

Wes Schroll, 2011, 6’4”, Acton Boxboro – Schroll had as solid a week as any player in camp. He ran the floor all week  and got numerous dunks and layups just on hustle alone.  He low post game (on both offense and defense) is also very solid.

Connor Stockdale, 2011, 6’4”, Watertown – Hard worker who is always in the right spot

Andrew Gosselin, 2010, 6’3”, St. Bernard – Can just plain shoot and with an ultra quick release

Tim Farell, 2010, 6’2”, Whitman-Hansen – When left open, he made them pay. Drop dead shooter

Stanley Greene, 2010, 5’8”, East Boston – Lightning quick guard who made defenders feel like they were standing still. Really turned many coach’s heads.

John Williamson, 2010, 6’1”, Litteton – Strong and efective point guard. Big lock down defender who can consistantly hit the 3

Billy Bonnet, 2012, 5’8”, Malden – Controls the game and is an effective scorer for a point guard

Edwin Delva, 2011, 5’11” Concord Carlisle – Another unknown who made his mark.  Competed effectively against all of the pg’s in camp

Newcomers

Aaron Calixte, 2013, 5’8”, Stoughton – Great body, fast and effective. Ready to step in right away at the high school level

Peter Erhardt, 2013, 5’11”, Natick – Runs the floor and knows the game.  This lefthanded knows how to score and does it often.
