Martin Playing Well and Getting Noticed

The last three months have been an exciting time for Sam Martin.  He has played well at virtually every stop and is consequently seeing his recruitment go to new levels.

It began in March at the Greater Boston All-Star Game.  After being a late addition to the field, the Worcester Academy guard was eager to prove his worth.  He certainly did that as he led the game in scoring.  While most people knew he could stroke the ball from behind the three-point line, it was his ability to play off the bounce that surprised some,  as he was often able to break his man down, get into the lane, and score with a variety of pull-up jumpers, step backs, and floaters.

His strong play continued throughout the month of April as he shined in a starring role with the Rhode Island Hawks as they turned in solid results at the Northeast Hoops Festival, Pittsburgh Jam Fest, and Providence Jam Fest.

Now, Martin is looking to continue to prove himself at a variety of elite camps.  Last weekend he attended Yale University’s Elite Camp where he once again played very well.  Next weekend he is headed to Columbia, with a trip to Cornell’s camp scheduled at the end of the month.  He will continue to be a busy man in the month of July as he heads to Eastern Invitational and then Hoop Mountain’s Academic All-American Camp to start the month.

Martin’s strong play hasn’t gone unnoticed.  Dartmouth had him up for an unofficial visit last month and he is scheduled to return to Yale’s campus for a visit next week.  He also appears to be a target for some new head coaches as Brown’s Jesse Angel and Bucknell’s Dave Paulsen both personally called Martin shortly after landing their new positions.

It is easy to see why Martin would be appealing to coaches in the Ivy and Patriot Leagues.  While his recent play has left little doubt that he is capable of being productive on that level, he is also an ideal fit academically.  He is the top ranked student in Worcester Academy’s senior class and also recently scored very highly on the SAT.

Overall, Martin certainly seems to be the complete package for a high academic school as he is getting it done in a big way, both on the floor and in the classroom.
